What’s the logic in this?
What’s the logic in this?
MS requires OOSers to purchase all-game licenses to shoot yotes and hogs. I only hunt waterfowl in MS. Don’t care to hunt deer or turkey (we have enough of those in AL much closer to the house). Coyotes and hogs are invasive species. During the eight hours of daylight I’m NOT hunting ducks while at camp, I wouldnt mind ridding the area of surplus vermin. But I’m not paying a premium to do it. It’s a service to the community!
MDWFP tells me that the law can only be modified by the legislature. As bad as the hog and coyote populations are, I’d like to see that change.

Yes it has to be voted on and changed by the legislature, but the legislature listens to and does what the commission does, which, for the most part, listens to the MDWFP feet on the ground want.

As long as you have a dead hog in your possession I doubt they would ever bother you? The problem comes when you have a high-powered rifle during deer season and no dead hog to show for it.
But what do I know.

Fair points all. I’m a MS native and a MS landowner. That wouldn't help me at all if Mr. Greenjeans saw me cruising the lease in a SxS with an AR beside me.
If y’all want some help with hog & yote eradication, write your congressman.

Since you own land are capable of claiming dual residency?stang67 wrote:You moved away without buying a lifetime license first?!cupnglide wrote:Fair points all. I’m a MS native and a MS landowner.
Re: What’s the logic in this?
For the purpose of buying a lifetime license, no, I don’t believe so. Meaning a nonresident landowner cannot buy a resident lifetime license. You have to be “domiciled” in MS.mshunter77 wrote:Since you own land are capable of claiming dual residency?stang67 wrote:You moved away without buying a lifetime license first?!cupnglide wrote:Fair points all. However, if you got a resident lifetime license when you were a resident, it’s good even if you move, regardless of whether you’re a landowner or not.
Re: What’s the logic in this?
I was under the impression that there is a caveat where you didn't need a hunting license (except for the duck) to hunt on land you own.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: What’s the logic in this?
Only if you are a MS resident landowner, hunting on land titled in your name, as I read it.

Re: What’s the logic in this?
If you have a physical 911 address for the land you own and any kind of utilities I would assume you could go get a MSDL and therefore get an MS hunting license.stang67 wrote:For the purpose of buying a lifetime license, no, I don’t believe so.
