Something of interest
Re: Something of interest
When dove hunting nowadays, I have to go out of my way to pick up dead doves as quick as I can to avoid fire ants. And in the woods, ant mounds are everywhere. I know they say the quail’s demise was due to a variety of factors, but I can’t help but think fire ants were chief among them.

I caught the tail end of the quail era as a kid and was fortunate to kill a decent amount. Daddy quit going once they disappeared but once I got my drivers license I would keep taking his dogs but didn't find very many. I was on top of the world taking the dogs in my old 79 F150 4x4 though.
I have a covey on my property and a couple on some family land here in pearl river county but certainly not enough to hunt or in a good place to use dogs.

Kind of cheating here since this was taken on vacation, but if you ever get the chance, go check out Yellowstone and the Teton mountains. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more (minus all of the camera happy knuckleheads running around in some spots). What a cool place that, Lord willing, I'll be back to see again. We were there 5 days and i feel like we just barely scratched the surface.
One footnote I'll add is that whatever you think the trip is going to cost you, bump that up 25% or so. They know what they have out there and the prices match what you get to experience.
