usfws feeding the ducks lets find out?????
I would like the duck hunters that read this post to email trent lott in washington to address the rumors and accusation that the usfws is putting out grain by hand in states north of MS too hold the ducks ont the refugees. I realize some of you may aggree or disaggree with me. On this issue so let find out for sure. As most of you know this year has pretty much has been a bomb so far, as far as the duck numbers. I have been hunting along time and I know that normally we have some ducks come in with every front whether there was freezing air behind it or not. Maybe not a whole lot but some always came, even in November.Until this year, Heck I done better 4 years ago with only one day all season getting down to below freezing than I have this year as far as just SEEING ducks in numbers. So I am asking each of you too put this matter to rest. I have been told on other sites that the refuge system as we know it today is each year pulling more and more ducks these refuges are inprinted on the flight plan and their offspring, they are just hopping from one refuge to another. Which means fewer huntable ducks,I AGREE that refuges are a good thing to some degree but I DO NOT AGREE that they should be putting food out for them by HAND! I have emailed Mr. Lott to see if he will investigate the rumors and IF THE USFWS or some STATE agencies are doing it and to put a stop to it. As this seems to be putting a twist on the ducks natural migration time. I also think they should allow a limited number of hunters to hunt some of the larger refuges by drawings and limited days to get the ducks to move off of them and too help keep them moving. I do not hold any hunter from any state responsible for what the fed or their state agencies do. They are pretty much in the same boat so to speak as we are. You can look at em but dont shoot em. Anyway here's the email address for MR lott...........senatorlott@lott.senate.gov Lets see if he can and will find out whats going on for sure!...........

Apart from the feeding but concerning refuge areas, why don't they rotate refuge areas year to year. Let people hunt new locations instead of keeping them closed for rest areas only. Most any WMA that has enough land (or NWR) for a refuge area has enough to rotate the areas. As for feeding other than planted crops, thats a big bunch of crap. Whats the difference in me feeding to hold ducks and the USFWS.

As far as feeding the ducks in the MS delta, I'm all for it. By anyone. If you looked at the delta this summer about all you saw was cotton. I'm sure you realize that cotton is not the food of choice for ducks. This means that there is very little food in the delta for ducks this year. I would much rather see ducks fed in the delta in places where they can't be shot, than to see them starve to death or leave the area.

IF YOU EVER GO UP THROUGH SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
YOU WILL SEE THEY GROW A HUGE AMOUNT OF CORN.
AROUND REND LAKE THEY GROW SO MUCH STUFF FOR THE WILDLIFE IS UNBELIEVALBE.
AROUND CAIRO ILL IS WHERE ALL THE REFUGES ARE DOING THE FEEDING. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE
HOW MUCH LAND AND GRAIN THEY DEVOTE TO THE WILDLIFE AND WATERFOWL UP THAT WAY.
IT MAKES THE EFFORT IN MISSISSIPPI LOOK LIKE A JOKE. THEY JUST SIMPLY ARE MORE DEVOTED UP THERE THAN THE POLITICIONS ARE AROUND HERE.

Feather duster has a good idea about rotating the refuges. Send it on to Washington and any other view you have on this issue on the email add. i put in the post. As far as the feeding goes there is no diffrence between you and the gov. feeding to hold ducks other than the fact you would have too pay for it and you still wouldnt be able to hunt over it legally same as a refuge, well you already pay for them to do it too. Hey if you want to make you own refuge be my guest nothing illegal that I know of about feeding them. Just look, dont shoot I guess....... good luck to you guys for the rest of the season maybe they'll get here before the end of it.
As for them starving to death I dont think their natural desire to live and their ability to fly would'nt keep them from finding food somewhere.... Hey they might even find some in your hole that you hunt in H2O but you do have a point about them leaving the area. Lets say that the states up north "MAYBE" feeding them because they dont want them to starve and they dont want them to leave either and lets say that "MAYBE, JUST MAYBE" they are puttin food out for them by "HAND" to keep them up there what does that mean for you and me down herr? Fewer huntble ducks down here. Stands to reason doesnt it If they arent getting fed up there by "HAND" by the truckloads or flying it on by airplane, then they would have to move on down "HERE" to feed. HMMMMMM sounds like a winner to me. I dont think OUR state should feed them by "HAND" either so the guys in La. and southern Al will have ducks too.If they choose to move on on their (the ducks)NATURAL flight schedule. usfws feeding the ducks lets find out?????
I have heard by word of mouth that in the state of Missouri the wildlife and fisheries dept. is flying in food several times a week to try and hold the ducks there. I really cannot say that i agree with this at all. It is hard enough for us in Ms. to get the weather we need to push the ducks to us and now we have to compete with this. It really justs disgusts me. As for us feeding the ducks i am all for it. This has not been one of the best years, but i just love being out there and trying. You can't kill anything if u do not go.
