Tupelo MS Eats
I'll be stopping in Tupelo for lunch Friday. So, what are your favorite locally owned, mom & pop type dives.
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

I'm a big fan of the blue canoe

Romie's or Kermit's. Or Johnnie's Drive In if you like old school greasy burgers, fries and shakes. On East Main out in Elvis country.
Re: Tupelo MS Eats
is that the old dairy cream drive in? been so long, i can't remember if there are 2 drive-ins on east main, but the diary cream was always a "must stop" when rolling through tupelo. a friend grew up in a neighborhood behind elvis's original house, so i got familiar with some of the local favorites there!mfalkner wrote:... Experience is a freakin' awesome teacher...

Neon pig for the smash burger. Romies for the plate lunch. Vanellis bistro downtown for limited menu but pizza focused. My new favorite is Amsterdam Deli small menu Mediterranean food, humus, gyro, falafel etc I think it's one of the best kept secrets in town.

No, but the DC is still rockin' too. Usually a line from about 10:30 until 2 or so there. Johnnie's is a couple of blocks further east past Veterans Blvd.donia wrote:is that the old dairy cream drive in? been so long, i can't remember if there are 2 drive-ins on east main, but the diary cream was always a "must stop" when rolling through tupelo. a friend grew up in a neighborhood behind elvis's original house, so i got familiar with some of the local favorites there!mfalkner wrote:... Go to K.O.K. Or neon pig if your not here often. They are owned by the same person, neon pig does not serve fries and kok does but menus are similar at both places. Not saying all the other suggestions aren't good, but they are all a distant second in my opinion. Try the kok sauce on the fries instead of ketchup, you won't be disappointed.

We tried the Neon Pig on the way though a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunatley it was not a big success. Lots of folks recommended it, here and elsewhere. Maybe we just caught em on the wrong day. Gonna try one of the other suggestions this Firday. Thanks again for all the input.

This is not the first thread asking about Tupelo restaurants, and how come I'm the only person who ever mentions the Blue Canoe? Have any of you eaten there? Not like it?

I've heard the staff is rude and the food isn't that good. I don't like live, loud music, while I eat.
Re: Tupelo MS Eats
People rave about BC but a big part of it is the craft beer selection if that’s what you’re looking for. If going with kids you need to go earlier if you want to avoid live music loudness and bar scene. Nothing wrong with it just big swing in atmosphere around dinner time.
