Usually, when a coach is dismissed, there are contractual agreements barring either side from making disparaging comments to the media about the other. This seems to be a slam dunk case, if such an agreement existed with OMU and Nutt.

And to think I use to be worried that this freeze guy was a heck of a football coach and he carried favor with the Lord. Had me worried.

Now I know that ; he's just a cheating manipulating liar

Freeze could run for Senate with that filibustering he did for over 15 min at the podium.

HOOVER, Ala. — It's a 10-minute stroll from the campus of Ole Miss, down the circular drive on Ole Taylor Road to Rowan Oak, where famed author William Faulkner dreamed up stories of the Southern conscience.

Even he couldn't have dreamed up one like this.

At just about any college football program outside the SEC, Hugh Freeze would've been fired by now. But there he was Thursday, less than 24 hours after being named in a defamation and breach of contract lawsuit—on top of being a central figure in an NCAA investigation of the Ole Miss program that alleges 21 rules violations—standing at the podium at SEC media days and talking about character and integrity in dealing with adversity.

The adversity created by Freeze.

It seems like only yesterday there were posters here suggesting it was racist to question whether the Tunsils' living arrangements in Oxford were legitimate.

I have waffles back and forth on Freeze, what the punishment should be, will be, etc.

There is a part of me that wants to believe Freeze is somehow the victim in all of this mess. I know I feel this way because he professes to be a Christian. I'd certainly hate to condemn a fellow believer if he is somehow, someway innocent in this ordeal.

That said, it is his responsibility to know what goes on in his program. Moreover, he has clearly been dishonest with recruits and media relative to what was contained in the first NOA (there are numerous quotes from recruits about what Freeze told them was in the first NOA that was now an obvious lie - two of the recruits committed thereafter).

There are rumors of a personal nature out there too that undermine the message he so blatantly and purposefully projects as well.

He seems to be more Jimmy Swaggart than Billy Graham at this point.

The new penalty matrix that will be used, if followed, could result in close to 70 schollies being taken from OM.i think a multi-year bowl ban happens.

In reality, OM could realistically face a fate worse than the death penalty.

That does not even account for losing the support of multiple disassociated boosters that have helped recruiting.

In the end, I just don't know what to think because there is no frame of reference to relate this to in sports.

I hear there may be some questionable numbers that were frequently dialed on the Rev's phone that he may not want to be public. Also, there were very little calls made to verifiable numbers of recruits, which leads to the probable use of burner phones.

Although I have always felt like he was a modern day Jimmy Swaggert I put little into the rumors of his personal life with out some actual evidence. Heard an interesting call on the finebaum show the other day. A guy called in that apparently is a big time lawyer in Memphis that has represented people in NCAA cases. Said his son played for Freeze at Briarcrest. So when all of this started coming out he asked his son if he thought Freeze was capable of all of this. Said his son really would not answer and just shook his head. He said he interpreted it as Ole Miss has a serious problem on their hands with Freeze. Also he did not call in to weigh in on his opinion.Paul asked him since he had experience with this stuff. I just can't fathom them giving 70 scholarship reductions.

I would guess the NCAA hedges on the penalty matrix and gives the 25-30 schollies and a 2 year bowl ban. They'll vacate wins, have 5 year probation and have to "banish" a bunch of boosters. I honestly have no clue about show-causes for remaining staff. Barney will get one, but I doubt Freeze does as I sit here today.

If they hit them with 60 schollies, what will they do to UNC and Baylor, whose transgressions are much worse?

I think 25 is the median. If less than that, OM probably got off easy. If greater than that, they probably got it pretty hard. If they got hit with 30+, then they got hit really hard. 40+ and the NCAA devastates them.

And they'll owe Freeze 25 mil if they fire him. They're gonna ride that ship til it sails.

Surely there's language in the contract about misconduct and NCAA enforcement in his coaching contract? Similar to the motorcycle incident involving a certain blonde chick and head coach, you know?

They can fire him for cause today and avoid paying him. However, it helps if the NCAA issues a show cause on him. The threat of litigation then goes away.

Les Miles is going to be the head coach for Ole Miss starting the 2018 season. You heard it here first.

You do realize that there is much evidence to suggest that OMU's cheating culture really got rolling during Orgeron's tenure, right? just a little Thursday factoid. I think people feel sorry for Ed O, so they don't bring it up much.
