Let us not pussyfoot around, you are Internet scouting. The bad kind of Internet scouting. The most offensive thing about an "innocent little ole me" Internet scouter is not so much the fact that you are being lazy; it's the fact that you're playing everyone for a buncha fools.

Here's how you go about the good way of Internet scouting, even a new area you don't know, cuz ain't nobody givin you a nudge, a hunch, a birdy-in-yer-ear, NOTHIN.

Google "public land hunting" for your zip code.

Ya oughtta get some names of some areas from that.

And go from there (Initiative).

I am not trying to be a smart ass but maybe this guy is just like i was when I first stated duck hunting. I didn't know crap and no one was willing to help. I did get some help one time and it cost me hunting land. I hunted public land twice killed total 3 teal but at the cost of a high speed race to the hole that we lost and a fight over the second hole with the same people that beat us to the first hole. My advice is don't trust anyone and don't share any info with anyone and if you piss someone off don't feel bad about. With that said if you are interested in deer hunting shoot me a pm and who knows you might just meet a couple of duck hunters that might let you go a long if they think you are a ok guy.

If you wanted to tell your story just say so. If that's not the case then you are contradicting yourself: You first offer apologies for being sympathetic to the now non-existent Internet scouter, and then you follow up with the advice to "...not trust anyone and don't share any info with anyone..."

I having trouble following your logic. If I bumped into the guy, if he wanted to make frands, then we'd go from there. But that's just it, like I said before...he gone. A user and abuser.

Some of the most classic threads have been on this subject. It might just be what helps the place come back. Damn sure wouldn't hurt.

Didn't mean to cause a stir with all this but I see yall's points. I'm still new to all this just trying to get some tips from more experienced hunters. I've made some progress on public spots by word of mouth and hope to make progress from there this fall when I'm back at school.

Here's another tip for you. Study topo maps and pay particular attention to creeks and such. Ride around the private lands that border the blank refuge. See if you can find some low lying areas that temporarily flood after heavy rains. There's a chance that once you find some of these areas that Ducks from the blank refuge will use these areas. Once you identify a spot.. go ahead and find out who the land owner is . On the x hunts has an app that will give you every landowner in the state.
If and when you find one of these areas contact the landowner and ask for permission to hunt.
Your sales pitch to the landowner should note that there is only a limited opportunity to hunt these ducks as the water will be receding pretty quick like.. when I was at state we had sone luck hunting on a old black womans place that only flooded after hard rain. We were able to corral a few birds up on here place. Mostly mallards

No BS, if you'll PM me closer to duck season, we will hook up and talk ducks. I know every piece of public land within 1 1/2 of 39759, some I know better than anyone ever could.

I will tell you, don't be fooled into thinking everything is ALWAYS west of you. Alot of the times it is, but there are some fabulous hunting opportunities in east MS if you know where to look. I ain't saying they're always on public land, and I ain't saying they're always good all year, but one thing is for sure, if it's ducks there, if they ain't wood ducks, then they're 99% mallards. On average years, we have no trouble shooting our fair share of mallards in the face. On good years, I rarely travel west except to take some youngins to hunt the timber.

Thanks guys I'll be sure to take up both offers. I hate I can't offer up any hunts in this area, I have a climbing stand I bow hunt out of and brought it up in January but didn't have much luck besides a few doe. Not many horns travel up old 25 from what I've seen.

Think about it - is anybody stupid enough to send someone looking for a place to hunt in any direction other than away from where they hunt? We don't need any more idiots over here. The guy made it to college. Maybe he's 'gifted' and able to figure it out himself.

Go, "if I were a duck.....what would I be doing right now?.......and where would I be doing it?" Then if you're REAL serious about duck hunting......ask, "Why would I be doing that here?" Chances are, you're not where a duck would be, doing what they normally do at that time of day, or this time of year.
