wth??...bolo: cat. converter thieves
MSUPD has taken four reports yesterday of Catalytic Converters being stolen from Honda and Acura vehicles around campus. MSUPD has increased patrols, but we need your help too. Be alert and report any suspicious activity. The suspects may be using a jack to lift the vehicle and are cutting off the converter. The cutting process will make noise. Should you see or hear suspicious activity, do not approach or confront them. Contact MSUPD as quickly as possible, by calling or texting 662-325-2121. If safe to do so, keep watching the suspects and help the dispatcher direct the officers to them.

Thats a lot of trouble for a converter..........what do they cost now? Is recycle price getting high? Do they have platinum or gold in them or is a thief just to cheap to go buy one?

I beleive certain model cars have platinum in them. I know Toyota Tundras used to be one of the main targets for this.novacaine wrote:Thats a lot of trouble for a converter..........what do they cost now? Is recycle price getting high? Because most of the CC's contain amounts of precious metals like copper, platinum, palladium, or rhodium. The theives can get anywhere from $50 to $250 each for them & they are relitively easy to remove.
MS needs to adopt stricter laws on selling certain scrap metal!
We had an ENTIRE Trailer full stolen from here a couple of years ago! Twas in inside job! They found em in Jackafrica @ Precious Auto.

They use cordless cutoff tools. I watched my mechanic friend cut one off in less than a minute. His was on a lift, so it probably takes them a little longer off of a jack on the ground.

MS has real strict laws on selling scrap metals. They have to get copy of photo ID and all sorts of info. They also take pictures of the scraps. The issue in the delta is that Arkansas doesn't have strict laws and they steal all sorts of things and take them across the bridge into Lake Village. That scrap yard there doesn't care if it's stolen or not. Odds are those parts being stolen are being taken out of state.eSJay wrote:Because most of the CC's contain amounts of precious metals like copper, platinum, palladium, or rhodium.
