Time to Rate the 2016-2017 season
On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst ever and 10 being the best ever, how do you personally rate the 2016-17 waterfowl season?
I'd give mine a 2.

I'm not even sure I could CALL mine a duck season.

Duck season was a 3. Hunted the last weekend only and got mallard limits both days.
Because we didn't have water I got to chase the deer a lot more and killed the biggest deer I have ever killed and shot the biggest deer I have ever seen with a bow (didn't find it but its still alive). Ill give deer season a 9.
I agree with novicaine. When I was in college this year would have sucked. Its gotten to be a lot more about the camp experience for me. That is always a 10.

I agree. Camaraderie at the camp and getting to spend time away from it all is always valuable.
But, it is still fun to kill ducks, and not killing ducks can be a drag after a while.

strictly by numbers killed second to worst ever.. that being said I used to hunt 30-40 days, and now I'm hunting 15-20
99% of my hunts are 2-4 people. the quality of hunt strictly based on numbers, has went up though.
Shot honkers on dry fields in December, in MS. Killed my first band. Took my wife on her first duck hunt ever. Got to watch a good friends dog make some retrieves I never dreamed possible for a dog his age. I Actually got into some blue wings this year on a couple different occasions. Oh, and saw another black duck make it to the wall on a mid December hunt.
on a scale of 1-10 I'm giving it an 8.

Hit submit before I explained....from the hard freeze to the end was decent...before then was just plain nothing...so thus the 3 rating.
Are we gonna get wet?

Re: Time to Rate the 2016-2017 season
What is this "season " we speak of?
At times I honestly cannot put together a logical reason as to why I continue to go. Being raised doing it? Runs in the family? Because I'm a hard-headed, doggedly determined idiot? Being doggedly-determined can be a good thing, IF the end result is actually achievable. I don't really have a goal, I don't guess. Must be the bath salts.
Next year I'm gonna get my truck wrapped with nothing but the phrase, " I finish ducks." Start a movement, because that movement is the only thing that'll get a mallard duck back to acting like himself- instead of an April 15th public land gobbler who's stomping grounds happen to be from Canada to the LA coast. Get my product sold in all the "outdoor retailer" shops- right next side the southern tide and mountain hardwear apparel. That ought ta do it.
In my opinion, the overwhelming majority (or what seems to be) of people not finishing ducks is THE single biggest issue with bird movement, and it's the crux of the problem with waterfowl. More gunshots= less opportunity for more gunshots. Hopefully soon I'll have some data to back that up, as if it didn't already exist. That is, if the crappie slow down.
Turkey and crappie just get better and better sounding every year...

Started good, ended good in the timber. Middle stunk. I'm gonna have to go 7.6 just bc of last few weeks in the woods. Had some great camp times too.
