Corn Pile
I was flying today, and looked out the window and saw a big corn pile on the ground out in the middle of some woods. I always wondered how people get caught doing this, but it was pretty easy to see in the fact that if jumped out at me from a couple miles away.

Interesting that you could see it that easily. That being said MDWFP just does not have the man power or budget to adequately enforce the baiting laws in the state.

Re: Corn Pile
I found a corn pile so big once that it showed up on Google earth. Seriously. Sunflower county. They must've taken the picture the year before or something but it was on there.

Re: Corn Pile
Speaking of corn, were any of you listening to the JT show yesterday while they were discussing this? I didn't catch the beginning, but some folks were claiming that deer harvest has decreased since the latest baiting law passed. They claimed it caused deer to become nocturnal. Not sure I buy that. The deer on our place were nocturnal long before feeding them became legal. I think road hunters had more to do with it than yellow acorns scattered about.

Re: Corn Pile
Thats about how big this one is. It was there two days ago as well. In a smallish patch of woods, probably 60-80 acres.Wingman wrote:Ha! I just looked and it's still there.

Certain areas of the state population have decreased for sure. I believe there are numerous causes but the most influencing factor is high velocity lead toxicity, and corn feeders in back yards.

Re: Corn Pile
I tend to believe there's some legitimacy to it. Our deer have always been dreadfully nocturnal. I used to blame it on dog hunting. Dog hunting stopped in my area about the time that baiting really picked up and deer sightings plummeted. It's plain ridiculous now. You flat don't see does.eSJay wrote:Speaking of corn, were any of you listening to the JT show yesterday while they were discussing this? Re: Corn Pile
I keep waiting on someone to realize what all this "feeding" is doing to the turkeys in our state. All this cheap corn people are buying is mostly the alphatoxin infected stuff that the grain brokers can not sell to human markets.
It is well documented that alphatoxin is really bad for turkeys. And I have several turkeys on camera with heads covered in what look like warts.

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Saw the FB page "Mississippi Whitetails" mentioned over on the Bull a couple times, so I joined to see what all the hullabaloo was about. Holy hell! I felt my IQ drop 30 points as soon as my join request was approved. If that page is a fair representation of the general hunting public's education level, I'm surprised there's any wildlife left at all.peewee wrote:teul2 wrote:I keep waiting on someone to realize what all this "feeding" is doing to the turkeys in our state. It is sad for sure. I often wonder if there is that many folks hunting that are clueless or if there most hunters just aren't saying anything.

do you follow any of the blood tracking network pages of facebook?
i don't think hunters across the state are shooting at less deer. i just think most hunters can't shoot. there are 10-many more post a day per page requesting trackers...... scary these people are in the woods with guns....
many of them ask if a dog is avaliable in a certain area before they even leave to go hunting.
