Re: AR-10
I was talking specifically about the generation two that they just released it uses a different barrel extension and bolt and bolt carrier.
The DPMS Gen one is the most compatible platform there is.b
If you want a complete rifle that you don't ever intend to do significant modifications to, then get the gen 2. If you think you would like to change parts out, swap barrels etc. get the Gen 1
Hopefully there will be some makers producing items for the Gen 2 in the near future?

Thanks. I was really leaning toward a Bushmaster but y'all may have sold me on DPMS. Now...what am I willing to sell to make this happen.....?

Just wait until Hillary gets elected before you sell something. It'll be worth a lot more then.
Seriously, don't go selling anything

Re: AR-10
Wildfowler, Gator....I bought the Gen 1 Oracle and I'm pretty pleased with it. Got rained out and didn't get it dialed in as well as I would like but it will hold 2" groups at 200 yds with cheap hunting rounds with no trouble. The trigger is my only concern. It wasn't as bad as I expected but a little "gritty" and the pull is pretty long which I don't like shooting off a bench. Have y'all put new triggers in yours? Which one?
I'm also looking for a sling and recoil pad if y'all have any suggestions.

Re: AR-10
Billy Tierce did a two stage trigger job on mine. I now wish I would have changed to a single stage, but it is a Ton better than from the factory.

Re: AR-10
I buy these for my my AR's:
http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/tr ... 53928.aspx
The "act" version. Still maintains the mil-spec properties but it much crisper feeling with very little to no creep. I've got several of these and they do not all feel identical but they are significantly better than generic trigger.
I prefer mil-spec just because I don't want to put a really light trigger in this kind of rifle. Especially when I may want to let other folks use it. But that's just my quirk and I find these triggers to be a major improvement.
If you're getting two inches at two hundred yards I'm very impressed as is.

I know the question wasn't addressed to me but... I have a Geissele SSA-E in my Smith and Wesson M&P 10. Nicest trigger I have ever pulled.landscaper wrote:Wildfowler, Gator....I bought the Gen 1 Oracle and I'm pretty pleased with it. Been hearing a lot of good stuff about the LaRue MBT as well.

Re: AR-10
That's shooting off bags. I'm not that great a shooter but I think the gun will do better. Found when I got home that my scope base was a little loose. I figure after tightening that back up and with a little trigger work and better ammo it'll shoot 1" groups easy.Wildfowler wrote:I buy these for my my AR's:

Thanks, all, for the info. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

You've had this for about a month now, put up some pictures of dead stuff.

Hanging my head. I don't think I have ever missed a deer with a scoped rifle till now. Missed two does in two weeks at close range. Zero is still good so it's my fault. No idea what I did wrong. I also went on an invitational hunt in south AL last week. I made the mistake of not loading at the truck and when I loaded in the stand I tried to ease the bolt down to be quiet. I misfired on a deer that would have pushed 170". Nearly threw up!
I'm tickled with the gun, though. I built a nice bench where I can get comfortable. Did some back yard shooting from it the other day (about 50 yds) and shot one three shot group with surplus ammo that was about 3/4" and another three shot group with Federal Premium ammo that was right at 3/8". Can't wait to get a good trigger in it.
Any suggestions on a recoil pad? That plastic stock will wear you out shooting from a bench.

Re: AR-10
Darn..
There is a lot going on in these rifles. You should follow through with the trigger. Wait until Bullet hits target before you release the trigger. Get used to hearing the reset of the trigger click after you let off.
I always use my left hand to hold the forearm and actually pull firmly into my shoulder. Even on a bench. I'm not sure what kind of stock you have but there are butt pads made for most of them.

landscaper wrote:When y'all say there may be compatibility issues with aftermarket parts on the DPMS guns are you referring to barrels, bolts, triggers, etc or are you talking about all the pretty bells and whistles you can put on them that just make them look cool?
I know there are some magazine compatibility issues between the DPMS and the Armalight. Only some of the Armalight models will accept Pmags.
Additionally, and please don't hold me to this, I believe the upper and lower receivers are slightly different as well between the two types.
Lower parts, triggers, etc. should all be compatible. However there is a 308 magazine release (I think that's the part) that fits better on the 308 receivers.
I believe also the position of the rifle length gas port is slightly longer on an Armalight. Which means you would have to have an Armalight rifle length gas tube. Pretty sure other Armalight lengths are the same.
DPMS pattern (SR-25) seems to be the most compatable with aftermarket parts.

I swear, sometimes I think owning an AR would be cool. Then I start to hear about all the options on uppers, lowers, triggers, barrels, jig-hoppers, and shrouds, and I think, "Too rich for my blood."
I like shotguns better anyways
