Also, at this particular place, one has to put in for a "draw" and be drawn to hunt, with a gun during a certain timeframe. Maybe they (Coast folks) are the only ones putting in for them. Hell I know I didn't put in for any of them so I can't say anything about not getting drawn. It was just an observation that I have come to expect at this place each year.

There is no special draw to refuge anymore due to it being raped over. Unfortunately the hunting South Delta public ground really isn't worth a crap anymore. I grew up hunting the area and did well for years. That's all changed in the last 15 years.

Pewee..this area is still draw..for deer hunting with a rifle anyway. Duck hunting they tell you what parts of the area you can hunt on certain days. Of course you can't hunt it at all without your Annual User Permit (used to be $15) but you are correct, the hunting has gone down in the last several years, I am not blaming anyone person or group, I think it is a culmination of things that has lead to the decline, but nonetheless, the hunting isn't what I used to be for sure. Example:: can anyone tell me for sure why MDWFP limited the doe killing on Sunflower this year?
Not saying it's a good or bad thing..I just want to know why did they did it and what do they expect to accomplish by it?

Things are so bad in my area. I thought when last season wrapped up that things may be on the upswing. This year indicates not.

Although I live on the coast I am not from here originally so don't consider myself a coastie. I will say from my time here they are almost as bad as the Cajuns about shooting anything. If you see my Jackson county tag up that way it will be on my own private land not on any public property or taking away some bodies lease.

I'm so tired of getting the out-of-stater treatment I don't even hunt in Mississippi anymore. For some reason it seems like its gotten worse over the past few years. I spend my money in other states.

There's a good bit of home folks pillaging too. When local folks don't even know where the check pole is and they've been hunting there 30 years, that tells me a pile of deer leave that place unchecked.

I totally agree with wingman on that as well. Lots of people have private "access" to the forest and refuge and use it as their own extra land and once it gets back to their house unchecked, then its fair game to them.

This is very true. But there are a helluva lot more acres in the Gulf than in the Delta. Especially the South Delta...

That's why I own property there. So, I can pay my part of the taxes, not be an "out of county coastie" and have my stuff stolen by the noble locals.
