E Collar

Postby littlesmacko89 » Sat Jun 18, 2016 2:04 pm

What brand E collar do y'all use for training and hunting and what distance would be ideal? I have been looking at the sportdog 825. Just thought I would ask before sinking my money into one.

Dogtra is what I currently have. If I were not to choose Dogtra, then Tri-Tronics. Both are good. If you do not mind purchasing a used e-collar with a warranty, then check out http://collarclinic.com . They refurbish trade-ins, but also have new collars. If you want to support a local company, purchase from http://gundogsupply.com out of Starkville.

TriTonics (Pro series tube), followed closely by Dogtra, followed by nothing else. A half-mile range will be fine for most folks.

I only have one dog and when my TT went down, I picked up a Garmin Delta Sport. Simple and has never failed, and I like the compact size transmitter. If I were running multiple dogs I'd probably look hard at Dogtra Edge as well as TT/Garmin.

Garmin sux if you actually use one often. No dials, but push buttons. Going from a low correction (5) to a hi one (18) takes 13 pushes of a button and requires you stare at the dial while doing so..
Get something with a 1-6 dial..Garmin really screwed up a good product TTronics had.

I hope my Pro500 never goes down! I have not tried the "non-Tube" Garmins.

I bought the 825 and love it...compact size, plenty of settings on C and M, and holds charge for very long time. I like the fact I use the thumbwheel to change settings without having to look down.

I've got a TT (Garmin) Alpha for my Shorthair. I love it. Far more versatile in its controls than my old turn dial Sportdog transmitters.

My old TT(pre-garmin) G3 is still doing great, but my next one will be a dogtra for sure.

Has anyone tried the new ARC from Dogtra?
