CHOKE shotgun shells

Have any of you heard of a brand of shotgun shells named Choke? You probably haven't because they are brand new. I just bought two boxes from the dealer representative (a guy from Weir, MS named Glen Beard). He is selling some of his shells to MS law enforcement on state contract. But, he also came out with a duck load. They are so new that they weren't even out in time for the start of duck season and he doesn't have any boxes for them yet. They are only available in 2 3/4" so far, but they are comparable with other brands 3" and 3 1/2" according to the tests that have been run. According to Glen, the wadding is what is so special about these shells. Where other brands like federal get about 60% of the pellets in a 30" circle at 40 yards, Choke shells are getting 90% of the pellets in the same circle. I am going to shoot them this weekend so I will find out if they are as good as he says (if I can find any birds). I have his card at home, but I am at work right now. I will try to remember to bring it so I can give it to anybody who is interested. The shells are a little pricy though. They are $29.99 for a box of 25 and he only has #4 and BB right now. Like I said, it is so new that he hasn't even got the boxes made up.

I almost forgot. The funny thing is that the guy said that because of the wadding, you were supposed to shoot the shells with an improved cylinder choke.

There was a writeup in our local paper by Bro. Richard Wiman about these shells. Seems Beard started making buckshot loads for the law or something, and then got into bird loads. He claims to have an effective range of about 50 yards, cold dead. Might be worth a try, but that price is awful strong.

Wngman, that's why they're called 'CHOKE' brand.....anybody would 'bout gag on that price.

Think about it, though, if you spend that kinda money, do you really need any mental association with the potential for failing to hit the target (i.e.'choking')........'sounds like a marketing flaw, unless they are trying to get you to miss so you'll have to buy more of their product. They sound like another, bismuth, tungsten, etc., load. About the same price or a little less than some of those shots. It would be fun to see if they really are effective as the claims. How about a phone #?

Well,
Only one Widgeon came in even close enough to shoot at, and it came in on the side of the guy I was hunting with, so I guess I'll have to wait to next week to see if the shells are any good. I'm praying that the ducks will be here in force by next week because it will be my last hunt of the year. I tore my ACL and am having knee surgery on January 18th so I'll be in on crutches for the rest of this year's duck season. I just hope my dog can forgive me. It wasn't a good year to be training a dog to retrieve unless you really wanted to teach patience (I'm not quite sure if I'm referring to the owner or dog on that one either).

Shells are the cheapes part of your hunt!!

Why would you have a high $ lease, four wheeler, $300 coat, waders, truck, etc.

The first thing you should have are good shells.

Nickle and dime on something else.

If you skybust at everything that flies near you then you should buy those kent or other low end shells.
I have noticed that hunters that use cheap shells are not just cheap they are skybusters!!!

You tellin' me you shoot practice targets with factory AA's? Man, I don't spend any more money than I HAVE to, to accomplish the task.....for example, 90% o' my shots last year were inside o' 25 yds......and I used the cheapest thing that gets the job done, right......that's X-perts. My last 1000 registered trap singles were broken with 1oz. reloads......97.7% of'em. I'm satisfied with that!

"Folks that use cheap shells are skybusters"...there's plenty o' folks that applies to.....but, for the record (and for the benefit of those who don't know me very well, that comment doesn't apply to me..... cheap, maybe. Fact is, if they're on the end o' yo barrel.....it doesn't matter WHAT you sling at'em...as long as you can put the shot where it counts. Anne blew the head clean off a Ross' goose at 20 feet straight-up......what a waste of a 'Supreme'......but that's what we decided to use in the rice field, 'cause that's what we need for that type of gunning.

Man I know you shoot a lot of rounds DD, but I like the ever livin' heck out of them Kent shells. I patterened them this year and compared them to Winchester high velocity, drylocks and remington shells and I liked the Kents as well as any of the others mentioned patterns. There are quite a few ducks in my freezer that wish they hadn't met Kent shells. I don't sky bust, and I do like the shells a LOT! I do agree to not skimp on shells, but I don't know if you have given Kent a try, I like them a lot!

Betch the cost of a box of those shells a federal patterns tighter outta my patternmaster, than dem Chokes do out of any tube in yur bag. The shell might pattern tighter, but the choke is still gonna have an effect. Id guess he got a wad that dont spin, thats why he started with tactile buckshot and went to duck loads. Same reason a patternmater is tighter than anything else, cause it stops the wad spin. One time expense of 80 bucks, vrs shells that cost twice as much as premiumn steel, and hard to get a hold of, you decide.
Anti-did is right. A close duck is a dead duck, and it dont matter if you shoot them with rat shot if they close nuff. Try expert 4s, or estate hi vel 6's through a skeet choke man, you can kill your entire SIDE of the flock if you get em close nuff! travis
