You should have thrown that goldfish back.

Re: Just wanted to share
what you catch him on (Bait Wise)
Re: Just wanted to share
Live bream. I catch a lot of 15-30# fish, but this is the biggest so far...he's still not the fish I'm after, though. Before I'm through I need a 50+...I'm well on my way though.420 racin wrote:what you catch him on (Bait Wise)

That's awesome. I wish I could find a spot to the Rez to do that.

Man, the hooks I use, if he straightens one out, he can have the hook, line, and the pole too, cause I want no part of himdonia wrote:the elusive appaloosa??? guy that used to work for dad "said" one straightened out a shark hook of his. he used to fish just south of g'ville.davidees wrote:...he's still not the fish I'm after, though. Re: Just wanted to share
How are you rigging your live bream? Is it like a Carolina rig or something different?
Re: Just wanted to share
I'll try to remember to post a pic after work, but yes, it's a Carolina rig. 50# monofilament with about an 18" leader of 40# monofilament, a 1 oz egg sinker (fishing slow water, an eddy, actually), a barrel swivel, and 8/0 stainless steel hook. I use a reel with a free spool clicker thingamajig and let the fish take line. Flatheads are generally pretty soft biters (at least where I fish) and if they feel tension, they tend to drop the bait. Let em take it, then engage the gears and cross his eyes. Hook the bream through the tail or back third of his body. Some folks hook through the nostrils I think, but not me. Caught 3 more 15 lb'ers Wednesday evening.deltadukman wrote:How are you rigging your live bream? Is it like a Carolina rig or something different?

Nice, congrats! I just bought a 21 foot Center Console and I want to take some of my saltwater gear and try for some of those big ones.
