honda rancher ATV water in oil problem

Postby twarren » Mon Jan 07, 2002 4:05 pm

I have a 2000 model Honda Rancher 4 wheeler that is constantly getting water in the oil. The bike is going in water only 4-6 " above the foot boards which is well below the air intake. I'm finding water in the air filter box and the oil is contaiminated. Is it just a bad seal or loose fitting on my bike or does this model Honda have a problem with water? Any thoughts from ATV enthusiasts would be appreciated.

If this is a watercooled 4 wheeler guess is you have either blown a gasket or cracked the head. Might want to try a compression test too. Could also be a bad seal like you said.................. good luck.

check the bottom of air box. you can see this fitting from back of atv. it is a brown colored tube in center of air box on the outside it has a clamp onm it and will let water in if not secure. we have about 15 of these atv and that is what we had found to get water in the air box. it may have been knocked loose by a limb or something. it can be replaced easily by gettting plug that size because it only serves as a drain for the air box.

I have a Honda 450 and recently sunk it. We changed the oil 10 yes 10 times. You could have a couple of things going on. My oil would look ok and after I ran it for awhile and then it would look milky again. The mechanic helping me drained the Oil cooler and it seemed to be holding water. The other guy mentioned the plug under the air box. This could also be your problem. Im not sure you are getting new water in the oil or just not getting the old completely out. After 10 times my rig is working great. Good Luck.
