I peruse eBay periodically, and their prices on used trucks seem about like what a good haggler would pay new. That's for the sellers that focus on online sales, do the airport pickup thing... Kinda surprised folks are actually finding deals.

Thanks for the info guys. I drove up to Poplar Bluff, MO and got the truck Saturday. We had agreed on a price and trade value via email and text pictures. They gave me all the documentation on the truck needed to make an educated decision. Longest part of the time in dealership was waiting on the man with the papers to finish with another customer. The dealer even gave me all the info on the previous owner (70y/o man that trades in for a new truck every year). The truck is in immaculate shape and I can not find a single thing wrong with it. I am honestly still not sure I am allowed to own something so nice.

Yes, I found my truck on autotrader. I also searched cars.com. The eBay buying format weirds me out a little. Weather that is warranted or not, I am not sure. But it seems to rushed and final when the "auction" is over. I want an out when I go look at the truck. If I get there and something isn't right, I want to be able to walk away without repercussions.

Dad has been buying his recent ones from Louisiana because they were much cheaper. Only issue he ever had was over the taxes. He paid them in LA and then MS turned around and tried to hit him for more. Most people want to buy local because it's easier for service, repairs, etc. However, you end up paying more in the long run. I would've bought one in Louisiana last week if that dealer in Collins hadn't offered me the deal I got on that 2015. Did they do a "Certified Preowned" check on it ? That's how I got an extra 12K bumper to bumper added to mine.

Got a Ram 1500 with the EcoDiesel. Really liking this truck so far. I have never really liked Dodge in the past. A few years ago, the body style started to impress me. But when you closed a door, they sounded like clanging 2 beer cans together. Test drove one of these trucks last year, and the fit and finish had really improved. Test drove a used one local a few weeks ago, and really liked the truck. But it was used hard. Did my research and found the model and options I wanted and went and got it.


Yes, paying sales tax when I got back sucks. That's the only draw back that you can't roll it into the financing. But, it is what it is. If you buy out of state, you should not pay any taxes there. So it sounds like your dad got suckered or the finance guy didn't know what he was doing.

The 240ish miles from the dealer to Southaven, all highway, mostly delta, the average was 24.9mpg. The sweet spot on cruise control is 66mph if you can stand doing that on the interstate. But at 66 it gets 32 to 34mpg. This week, to and from work, and around town I am at 20.4mpg.
After the first week I am fairly impressed with the mileage, but ask me later and we'll see.

Finally pulled my Gator S4 with it this weekend. Gator is about 2000lbs, and trailer is 1000lbs. It was not the effortless "don't know it's back there" pull of an F250 that I had kind of phsyced myself up for. But, it sure blows my old GMC 1500's ability out of the water. I only have a 20 minute ride to camp through some hilly state highways. But it was a much much smoother ride than the GMC and it got about 18mpg (forget the exact number). When I took that same trailer and gator to the coast last summer, my GMC got 9mpg. So, I am pretty dang happy with it.
