Gun Safe

I'm moving into a new house soon and I am in bad need of a gun safe.

Looked at the Liberty safes in Pearl.

Looked at the colonial series - 64 gun safe -- which is probably way more than I will ever need. but its going in a room where looks matter - so I will need plenty of storage for odds and ends ( reloading supplies, optics, ETC)

the C050 is $2600 to my door - which is a little more than I want to pay. would like to be in the $2k range.




are there any other safe options other than liberty in our area?

Totally agree. Can get a 64- gun Cannon wide body for $899 on sale now. I got the 48-gun a few years back. Luckily haven't tested out the fire rating, but they are comparable to the high $$$ Liberty's for half the cost. Just my $0.02.

I got a Liberty Franklin 50 and it has been great. Discount Gun Safes customer service is exceptional. Highly recommend.

Academy----Cannon 36 gun capacity---$900 bucks---they forklift loaded it in my truck---6 grown men had to help get it in my house---bolted it to my den floor---earthquake ain't moving that mofo !!!

FYI, if you are going to store your reloading stuff in there, do not put your powder and primers in there. No paper or cardboard either for that matter. Paper and powder have a lower flash point (~450) and will ruin the contents when they may have survived the fire otherwise.

Interior isn't as nice as some, but it works just fine and has held up good.

Look at the empty weight of the safe. That will tell you alot about the construction.. A 50 gun safe that weights 1100 lbs is not the same as a 50 gun safe that weighs 750 lbs.. If you wanting to keep some duck guns and a few hunting rifles and pistols and odd and ins there then the 750 lb safe is probably fine... If you are wanting to keep family heirlooms that you want around even if you house is gone due to fire, tornado or other type of catastrophic event then the more expensive safe will pay off. If you go with anything over the 600lb range your in need of some really good and big friends, or professional movers.

IMO if you are looking in the 2k range, I would spend the extra $600 to get the liberty and have it delivered and bolted to the floor. If you don't spend the extra 600 now you may regret it later.. If you spend the extra 600 now you will never regret it..

Does anybody besides me worry about electronic locks on safes? I know they are reliable but anything electronic can fail; what happens then? Speaking from ignorance on the subject...

Most electronic locks I've seen also have a manual key in case the electronics bite the dust.

I thought that key just locked the dial ?

I asked the man who runs the business in Brandon which type lock he had on his personal safe, his answer was manual dial.

You pay for what you get in gun safes. Like a few said above.....if you pay $900 for a safe from Tractor supply.....you can't compare it to a $2000-2500 liberty or cannon safe. The materials used make all the difference in the world. Money wasn't a concern when i bought mine. I bought the Liberty Franklin model like one said above. I wanted the higher temp rating and longer time and i live in sight of a fire station. If i lived in the country, the highest model is the only one worth buying. Otherwise, you are only using it for theft protection if you buy a lower end model of any brand.
