What If MS Legalized Weed As A Crop?
Re: What If MS Legalized Weed As A Crop?
MS will look back in 30 years (when it's legal everywhere anyway) and realize it missed a home run by not doing this...especially when you realize 75% of the people smoke it anyway illegally. Instead of not having paper for kids to take tests on in our super underfunded schools they could tax it and make billions (yes billions) but I keep forgetting MS already has the casinos and has plenty of tax money coming in.

Gentlemen,
Nobody has yet been able to answer one very important question. Yes, they are making a whole lot of money with pot being legal in these places. And yes, the states where it is legal are making a lot of tax revenue. Of course, these states are also spending a lot more on medical and social services as a direct result of this legalization, so I think it is at best a wash for the states. At least that is the lesson from history. But, umm.
Where are these businesses putting their proceeds? They can't deposit any of it into a Federally insured bank. Their employees cannot deposit their paychecks into a Federally insured bank account?
And if they simply stockpile their cash in a storage room somewhere like a Mexican drug lord, how are they securing it? THAT is what makes this such a dangerous business.

Looks like state credit unions...
Not sure what happens to it if you buy it with a debit card though

And the Marijuana Policy Project, one of the top backers of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, said in Colorado the tax revenue from legalization exceeds the cost of regulating the drug. Colorado's system led to more than $135 million in state revenue in 2015, the group said.
I'm sure in the 30s people looked down on alcohol (as the population used it anyway) it ended up legal and I personally think it's a way to make MS ALOT of money if MS could get ahead of the game it could boost the $#!+ economy a ton

Says who? Show me a study that backs that up. I would be willing to bet that the medical and social services burden didn't increase at all in Washington or Colorado when they legalized recreational use.jacksbuddy wrote:Gentlemen,

Sorry to offend you there pal. I read that in a news article some time ago. Which one, I don't recall right off hand. However, history has taught us that such vices DO indeed cost us greatly in medical and social services, as well as in other aspects.Chuckle12 wrote:Says who? Show me a study that backs that up. You didn't offend me at all. I am a physician, so I like to see cold hard facts when it comes to such things. As a medical professional I see much less problems with MJ than I do with all other "vices" - ie tobacco, alcohol, even sex and gambling. Contrary to popular belief, the patients I see that use MJ regularly (the ones that admit it) are mostly functional members of society, 99% of them you interact with regularly and have no idea that they might smoke a joint when they get home.

So I suppose you think when they made alcohol illegal that it should still be illegal? Times move on, and we need to move on as well. I've made this post before and got roasted over it. You've heard all your life that Marijuana is the devil... and even looking at the stuff will lead you to looting, pillaging, raping, and murder. News flash... You'll sit on the couch, watch tv, and eat the most delicious Cheetos of your life. The last thing you want to do while high is be out causing trouble.merlebo05 wrote: Their is a good reason most things that are illegal are illegal..
You don't lose your mind and start gnawing on people. Legalizing marijuana will NOT lead to heroin / cocaine / meth or whatever else you want to say being legal. Its a golden opportunity to make TONS of money. Legalization in MS would draw people from TN, AR, LA, AL to come buy in this state. Its taxed at like 28%. Its raised money for Colorado school systems, close to 40 million the first year. Lord knows we need any help we can in the school systems. It leads to farmers being able to grow hemp, which would thrive in our area of the country. Its only a matter of time before its legal nation wide, and I'm sure MS will be one of the last to do it.
Medical professionals have vouched for the usefulness of THC with certain conditions such as seizures, chemo patients, people with chronic pain etc. I have crippling migraines and it sure as hell helps with that, and if you have migraines you know how awful they can be.
The same people that sit here and stamp their foot down and say that its terrible and you'll never change my mind even though they have no experience with it are some of the same people that will go get hammered off a fifth of Old Charter. There isn't any difference, except your way more likely to hurt someone being drunk than you are high on weed. There are ZERO over-doses on Marijuana in the history of the world. How many can we say about alcohol? Its non-addicting, it doesn't kill your liver, its from the Earth..
Also in CO, you're only allowed to buy with cash money, no debit cards.
Also the amount of money saved on releasing prisoners that have been locked up for Marijuana related penalties / future arrests is astounding for MS. Not to mention legalization would cripple the Mexican cartels. And my buddy that lives in Colorado this year got an additional $2,000 on his tax return for the surplus in taxes generated by sales.

That's some facts
Playing football I was paranoid and never messed with it...got in the real world and the most successful people I knew all were closet potheads...it's no different than a beer or wine at the end of the day (some people will say it's not)
You have a beer or two after work and after 30 minutes you feel like you didn't have one and I would say 99% of the world would agree pots the same way.
Mississippi is hurting for something and I know it sounds crazy but say all the tax went to education...maybe the kids would have paper to takes tests on

i have been to Colorado and the locals told me there was not a bad road or school in the state.
Get in where you fit in!
Re: What If MS Legalized Weed As A Crop?
I couldn't care less one way or the other, but the pro pot crowd better find a better argument than this. Casino money was gonna move our public education to the top of the charts, there wouldn't be an unpaved road in the state, and there was gonna be a chicken in every pot.....Rice wrote: Mississippi is hurting for something and I know it sounds crazy but say all the tax went to education...maybe the kids would have paper to takes tests on

All you have to do is show them the amount of money Colorado has dumped into their education system with taxes off of it.JaMak84 wrote: I couldn't care less one way or the other, but the pro pot crowd better find a better argument than this. Re: What If MS Legalized Weed As A Crop?
yeah, but all the "taxes" from liquor, as well as casinos when they were trying to get legalization in the state, was supposed to feed the ms education system beyond its wildest dreams.....but all those dreams got absorbed in the general fund, instead
Experience is a freakin' awesome teacher...
