Re: Letter to Editor in Vburg Post
all of us investing lots of money in camps/clubs in the bottomlands are getting screwed and have been since around Jan 1. The "HUNTERS" in the hills are having a hey day and their cousins, bro in laws, girlfirends, kids, etc and we won't have a decent age structure in our deer herd until 2020
Re: Letter to Editor in Vburg Post
I don't think the issue with this particular deer was the probability of the deer causing an accident. Can a deer standing on the side of the road during August cause and accident? Sure. But that deer isn't being funneled by high water to cross multiple roads. That deer is also not worn out from swimming through all the water to get to dry land. So the options for the deer in Vicksburg were; get back in the water and swim some more evidently being chased by "caring" citizens, stay on dry ground where the only avenue for the deer to get back to wooded land was to cross several major roads, or lay there and die which would have meant the public would have been calling Jackson for allowing a deer to starve to death. None of the options are good so the one with the least amount of suffering to the deer and the low probability of danger to the public.
I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid but I understand the explanation and accept it. It was a bad spot to be in for the deer, the public, and the officer.

You wouldn't believe how many deer have been killed since Jan 1, on the edge of the water Big deer! My question is why would the state wait to close deer season after the crest of the river, any idiot should have known to close the season before the crest! Example, south of big black closure. I mean yall are worried about one deer, proab a cull buck anyway

Re: Letter to Editor in Vburg Post
I wonder why people always make these assumptions about various LEOs. Is it because it's what they'd do if they were in that position?
I mean, I think this particular incident could have been handled better - ie, call in the Warren Co SD and let them arrest a few folks for interfering - but honestly would that be the best use of time and resources? If no CO had showed up and the deer had charged/injured somebody it would still be MDWFP's fault.

Because Joe, like many, always has a bone to pick with LE.
I heard the officer call in on the radio when he dropped the deer off at Hunter's Harvest. We have evidence receipt books where we get the party to sign when they receive game like that. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say that "Yeah, he's taking all those ducks/doves/rabbits/squirrels/deer to his house to eat."
My grocery bill each month will show otherwise. If I could take home everything I seized, all I'd have to buy would be milk and bread.
I'm always looking for needy people to take game to. Folks that can't pay the bills are the ones I'm talking about. I've taken deer and fish to Arms of Mercy in Greenville and the Manna House in Yazoo City.

No bone. I respect LEO's . I did take exception to your comments as an LEO and Public Servant talking down to folks asking a question.. He likely did just as your Dept. PAO said. I was DEFENDING the fact that the low pay you wardens get to do long hours and most times confronting someone with a loaded weapon, you should be able to keep the meat. You have to love the job to do it, I'm sure.
