Proverbs 27:8

Postby landscaper » Thu Jan 21, 2016 8:43 am

Proverbs 27:8 "Like a bird that flees its nest is anyone who flees from home."

I had to take a few minutes to get below the surface on this verse this morning. What does that mean really? What does a nest mean to a bird? What does a home mean to a man? Comfort? Shelter? Protection?

So what, if the bird flees the nest? It's exposed to the elements, the winds and storms, attacks from predators. It's without the warmth and protection found under the wing of its mate or mother.

Nest of twigs, feathered wings, houses made of wood and brick are nice, but how open we are to dangers, even attacks, if our shelter isn't at the feet of Christ! Make your home there, your "nest", if you will, and never flee from it.

I like that! Especially when you consider Matthew 8:20. The Son of Man had no place to lay his own head, yet He is our safe, comfortable home base.
