SBE II issue, can't find parts

Postby wrdabney » Tue Jan 12, 2016 1:25 pm

I have a super black eagle II and the last few hunts it clicks (no boom) on a few shots per hunt. It always is there first shot. If it fires the first shot it will fire the 2nd and 3rd. I have replaced the recoil spring with the 25% more spring from wolff gun springs. It has had a lot of rounds through it so I want to replace the hammer spring and the firing pin but no one has the firing pins in stock. Do you guys know where I could locate one by any chance? Have any of you had this issue and been able to fix it? Thanks for any advice you can give.

how old is the gun? you can call benelli direct, give them your serial number and they will mail you what you need, free of charge if gun is less than 10 years old.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

Brownells doesn't have them. I'm not sure how old it is but I would guess less than 10 years old (did they make SBE IIs 10 years ago? I don't know). I didn't know that about Benelli sending you parts. I will give that a shot.

Benelli is out too. Said they have some on the way but there is no way to get on a waiting list with them.

Have you disassembled the bolt and cleaned the heck out of the slot that the pin goes through, sounds like maybe just enough gunk is there to keep it from fully striking the primer.

If the problem persists ---I'd order a new firing pin spring / and carefully inspect the firing pin ( with a magnifying glass ) and make sure the head of it is not eroded ..and maybe order another firing pin. Worst case ...replace both the firing pin spring and the firing pin and see what happens. ( its not a bad idea to have a spare spring and firing pin anyway - if its a primary gun for you ). Your local retailer should have them or can get them or call Mann & Sons.. at 618-357-2911 and they should have the parts ( they're in Illinois - and seem to have most parts for Benelli that I couldn't find elsewhere - different recoil pads, different comb pads ...that I couldn't find locally.

If you buy a new firing pin and spring ...check them against the ones in the gun now ...to see if the firing pin is worn or pitted...??

Have you tried different ammo, maybe a brand change could help,

I have had the exact same issue and resolved it by option #3. I would recommend options 1 & 2 before trying option 3 though. Option 1) check tip of firing pin for damage. Option 2) make sure there isn't gunk/debris in the cavity of barrel where bolt rotates to lock. Option 3) clean under cap of spring that drives hammer forward (this requires taking the trigger assembly apart).

Be very careful if you try option 3 because there are springs under pressure in the trigger assembly. I resolved my issued by removing about a pound of mud from under the spring cap. The mud was preventing the hammer from striking the primer hard enough. When it clicks is it leaving a mark on the primer? If yes, rule out option 2.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have tried 3 different brand of ammo and it has happened with all of them. When it clicks it does not leave a mark on the primer. I have taken the bolt assembly down completely and cleaned it thoroughly. I did finally find a firing pin here: https://dawsonprecision.com/firing-pin- ... precision/
It seems to be an aftermarket one labeled for the M2 but says it will fit an SBE II. I will take a look at cleaning under the trigger spring cap. Thanks.

If ebay doesn't have the part, no one has the part. And I don't see it on ebay. A quick of 3 dealers I use and none of them have a firing pin either.

I would start with what ChadL03 said. Clean all the inside of the gun, as well as the bolt, and visually inspect the firing pin and spring.
Here is a schematic that may help.
