We will be shut down from hunting by saturday. The main concern tho is the backwater getting so high that places on eagle lake flood this time. better pray there isnt much rain in the delta while the river is up

unofficial from the hydro heads.............................52.5 ft-about 4 ft below 2011....................but that gets adjusted as they constantly run the model with additional info everyday.

Hang on to yo ass.
If you havent already started getting stuff out.............hurry the frack up!

Bad thing about floods coming down river, the gages will have a consistent climb for a while and then you get that anomaly like we did in 2011..........its trucking along climbing at 1ft to 1.2 ft a day and then you get that overnight 3 ft pop that scares the heck out of everyone. Most times you can schedule when to close off levees and then that 3ft overnight cuts you evac time by a day or 2.

I would recommend you dont wait..............unless your a gamblin man!
At the current rate of climb.................Jan 4 or 5 will probably be time to close the levee...........but i dont work there anymore but it was SOP back when i did. They call it Phase II and that is 48 ft on Helena gage.

Little Sunflower gates probably shut now. The Sunflower is backing up in the woods already.
Steele Bayou gates still open as of 7 pm tonite! Landside still higher than riverside, according to there website.

Actually it is one of those nino's causing warm weather and a truckload of rain instead of snow. If it was cold up there, this would be snow and wouldn't be coming down the river now...

Now, there may be Zombie involvement...

Today's revision is available. I noticed the listings for the Ohio river crest have been revised downward.

Update from MS Levee Board below

December 30, 2015

GOOD NEWS:
The river forecast remains the same and the next 7-day precipitation forecast looks great – very little rain predicted in the MS Valley!

Current MS River Gage Readings:
Arkansas City 32.9’
Greenville 44.0’
Vicksburg 38.3’

The National Weather Service (NWS) has not changed the Mississippi River forecast:
Arkansas City 48.0’ on January 13th
Greenville 60.0’ on January 14th
Vicksburg 54.0’ on January 16th

Yazoo Backwater Area:
The Steele Bayou Structure was closed this morning. The current gage reading is 86.0’. The landside will get to 90.0’ with the current water on the ground. With normal rainfall while the gates are closed the Yazoo Backwater will get up to 94’. Of course if we get more rainfall in the Mississippi Delta than normal – this number will go up!

Carter Area/Wolf Lake Area:
With the predicted 54’ crest at Vicksburg, the Carter Area/Wolf Lake Area is predicted to reach ~103’.

The Levee Board Crews have been working overtime preparing the levee for the levee inspectors.
The Levee Board ladies have been fielding numerous phone calls!
The Levee Board Commissioners held a Special Board Meeting yesterday to discuss the situation and take necessary action.
A Flood Fight Organizational Meeting to be held early next week.
The levee Inspectors will begin inspecting the levee early next week.
The Mississippi River & Tributaries Project (MR&T Project) is being utilized to pass this major highwater event.
The Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi River Commission have been engaged and they have been getting organized and making preparations to open floodways if needed. Reservoirs are being utilized to slow the amount of water getting into the system while trying to pass the crest.
The Item 463L contractor is placing limestone on top of the newly enlarged levee near Lake Chotard so that the Eagle Lake Residents can utilize Hwy 465 on top of the levee to get in & out. A public meeting will be held at the Eagle Lake Fire Department this afternoon at 4pm to discuss the situation with Eagle Lake residents.
MDOT officials are preparing for MS Hwy 465 and MS Hwy 149 to go underwater next week.
With this current forecast and situation – we will not have to lock down the levee.
So far so good!

We do not anticipate any problems with our levee system at this predicted forecast.

Thanks,

Came here to post this. Thanks DanP.

MDOT is only expecting 465 to flood next week. 165 should be a little later (maybe 2 weeks?).

For reference, in 2011 the YBW went to 89.9.

Maybe Bernie sanders will get a boost with this one. Climate change must be of utmost importance at this time.

I believe we were in a period of low rain fall. I seem to remember the farmers pumping water and running pivots while the yazoo backed up.

Definitely, it was kinda surreal - here we are worrying about floodwaters and we were irrigating like crazy.
