Ive had quite a few brands for a few years and my Iceytek has been the best. Yeti is more of a brand than a product....making more money off cups, hats and decals then coolers.

How many high end coolers have you bought? Not too many folks buy more than 1 high end coolers let alone "quite a few". I don't own a Yeti cooler, but they made those well before cups and hats, and I'm fairly certain it's still their cash cow of their product mix. How do you figure Yeti is "more brand than product"? Yes they've duped folks into wearing their brand on clothing and put their stickers on folks cars, but if their product sucked, would folks be doing that? The only reason I chose a Pelican over a Yeti was price. The Yeti wins almost every comparison test with their competitors. 2 years ago when I bought my Pelican, it lost to Yeti because of the extra weight, but cost 30% less, so I chose the Pelican. Hindsight I probably would use it more if it was lighter, and would pay the extra $100.

Probably 4 or 5 all together. I do a good bit of offshore fishing. I got my small LSU yeti as a gift but purchased most new or from rich friends who get new ones damn near every year. I own now 2 iceyteks, a engel, and 2 yetis. I'm aware that yeti made coolers before hats, my statement was that they have developed themselves into a brand. This is a common marketing strategy and many companies have done this in the past.

I'll second this opinion. Costa has done about the same thing. While both Yeti and Costa's products are superior to pretty much all of their competition, there are quite a few folks running around with a Yeti or Costa hat/t-shirt/window sticker/whatever that don't even own the actual Yeti cooler or Costa sunglasses just because it's the cool thing to do.

Add Drake to that mix as well. Not knocking any of their products, but their followers have all have almost become cult like to these brands. It is like the movie Idiocracy is coming true.

Ok. The way you wrote your first statement made me think you were stating the time line by saying "then" as opposed to "than" as in greater than.

Haha...yeah you'd think after thousands in college tuition I'd know the difference by now. I know most people only own one of these high end coolers but they're prevalent around Venice, Fourchon and Grand Isle. I'll also add that I in know way think that Yeti "sucked" (can't say the same about Drake) I just think their focus has shifted more to branding. There's nothing wrong with that if you're an investor as it usually equates to a great ROI. This is a common marketing direction... Harley Davidson is a great example of this!

If you are questioning the Yeti or the Pelican cooler and price doesn't matter.........go with the Yeti. If price does matter......I'd give this Rtic cooler a try. I ordered two of the 30oz cups from them. I think the shipping date is next week one day. I like my K2's as much as my Yeti's. I don't know what others say on weight, b/c the Pelican I have is lighter than the Yeti of the same size by a long shot. My wife likes the Pelican one b/c she can carry it much easier.

I guess I'll review the RTIC since I've had 2 for about 3 months now. I bought the 45 and 65 and love them. It took me 2 months to get them after I ordered them but they are exactly like the Yeti I had that was stolen. Latches, design the whole 9 yards is exactly like a it. Buy one and you won't be disappointed. I went through some reviews and watched a few you tube videos before I pulled the trigger. I've put 2 friends on the cooler and they love there's as well.

I am one of the holdouts on the $$$ cooler craze, but I decided to buy one of these. Looks like I will be enjoyed a cold beer out of mine after Turkey Season, as the ship date is 4/29/2016. Oh well, can't beat the price, but the backordered wait time sucks. :?

Did they charge your card yet? I was going to order one, except I'm afraid they'll get sued and go out of business before they even ship it and I'll never see that money again.

Yes they did, but the more I thought about it the less this backorder deal sounded like a wise idea. I called them back and cancelled the order.
Waiting 4 months on a cooler is not anything I wanted to be concerned with. Like you said, with the lawsuit pending and the wait time, it just was a little too sketchy for me. I will receive a full refund in a few business days.

I didn't think it was legal for them to charge your card until the item was shipped?

If you are between these two only you need to figure out what is more important on these points since every test I've seen where the two were compared for what they were created for (keeping ice longer) they both match up identical functionally for that.

Is price the issue? Yeti 45 (which only has 35qt capaicty) is $350 and Pelican 35 (actually has 35qt capacity) is about $200. So Pelican is $150 cheaper

Is weight an issue (do you carry it further than from your garage to your truck/boat basically)? Yeti 45 is 22lbs and Pelican 35 is 32lbs (the same as a Yeti 75). Let me tell you, 32lbs, plus ice and stuff is HEAVY when you try and carry it yourself. The Pelican's handles are ridged and you have to hold it differently than a Yeti. You have to bend your elbows weirdly, it's hard to explain without holding the two. The Yeti has the rope style handles and it allows for more ergonomic carrying for one person.

Everything else is a bit nitpicky. The warranty on the Pelican is lifetime vs 5 years on the Yeti. It kind of mattered to me when I bought it, but honestly, you would really have to do something crazy for something to break on either one. If I used it everyday and was rough on it, it would matter more. 99% chance I lose it or it gets stolen before something breaks is my guess. The latches are more secure with the Pelican, plus you can lock the Pelican thru the metal plates making it more secure, but who cares. The shape of the Yeti is better to me since it's longer and only 16" tall rather than how the Pelican is 19" tall and looks a bit like a cube. I don't really care how it looks, but Yeti's feel more secure to stand on and are a bigger platform to fish from, which I do. That may mean nothing for you if you don't stand on it when you fish. There's also a million accessories for the Yeti like padded seats and stuff which is nice where as Pelican is a bit lagging there.
