Wins in Starkville have been few and far between.
Hard fought game. Rebs were dialed in early, and Rebel DLine too much for MSU offense.
Hotty Toddy!!!

Congrats to Ole Miss. They came to play as they always do for big games. Dan doesn't prepare for big games obviously.

I think Hugh Freeze has positioned Ole Miss as the undisputed #2 program in the SEC. Bama is obviously #1 (even though they cannot seem to beat OM anymore). I never thought I would say this but I think Ole Miss wins a national title in the next three or four years with Shea Patterson at the helm.
What Freeze has done in Oxford is nothing short of amazing.

Not sure about #2 program, but certainly generally in top 1/3.
We have reached the point of having individual game depth --- being very competitive with starters and 2 deep ( with some dropoff) and able to pretty much match up with and beat anyone if relatively healthy. This is where the Ole Miss program is now.
But, the next step is what I call having season depth --- being able to play consistently at a very high level, even with key personnel missing due to injury, discipline, etc., for an entire season. That is the level that must be reached to win an SEC Title and compete for a National Title. We just aren't there yet.
We were close this year, but the mid-season saw a significant drop with the combo effect of Tunsil, Conner, and RN all being out catching up with us v Florida, Memphis, and Arkansas.
Once Tunsil returned, and the coaches turned Chad Kelly loose to run, the offense really started clicking, with the running game improving the most.
Absent Conner and RN, the defense was not as potent.
Still 2-3 years away from that next level IMO.
Very happy with overall season. Nice Bowl game plus chance to get 10th win is sign of steady progress. Still on upward trajectory with Freeze.

Making it to the Sugar Bowl would be huge for Ole Miss and possibly help them take that next step.

The only thing I am sure of is that the Rebels making it to their first Sugar Bowl since 1970 ( when I was in the 3rd grade) will be huge for the Po Monkey Lounger. It will help me take my next step or two.
All I can say is ROLL TIDE!!!!!!! ( Damn that feels weird. It just doesn't easily roll off the tongue
)
Side note: Interestingly, while the improbable loss to AR cost the Rebels our first SEC West Div title and trip to Atlanta for a shot at the overall SEC title, it likely did not make any diff in our ultimate bowl destination. Had The Rebs beaten the Hogs, and then won the SEC title game, the reward would have been the Sugar Bowl. If Alabama takes care of business against FL as expected, then Rebels likely go to the Sugar Bowl. Alabama would not have needed the SEC title game win to make the playoffs --- they were already in. Now, of course, the Tide does need the win, as a loss would knock them out. From a national title perspective, the Tide may have been better off if the Rebs had beaten AR.
