Ask DS: Hypothetically speaking....

Postby tru grit » Thu Nov 12, 2015 9:04 am

If i had a buddy that ran over a timber rattler, would it be illegal for him to get it mounted even though they are a protected species?

Edit: realized timber rattlers are not protected in Mississippi. first google search attempt yielded an incorrect source.

Any suggestions on a taxidermist around the Yazoo/Flora area?

Heck, do it yourself, and make a nice hat band....easy peasy.

>cut off head
>slit under-belly from head to tail, but leave rattlers attached
>peel like a banana
>stretch out on plywood flesh side up
>pin perimeter every 4 inches
>salt down
>store in cool place for a week
>scrape off salt and flesh
>re-salt and store a week
>scrape off salt
>trim off outer edges

That's it....I've done a ton of 'em....beautiful hat bands.
