Farming question?

Postby SNOT » Fri Oct 16, 2015 8:16 am

The guy that farms our delta lease only discs parts of the fields after the beans / corn are cut....and it's just random parts of the fields every year...I guess I figured he would disc 100% of the fields or none the fields but not just random areas....probably a stupid question but what's the reason for doing it like that?

I think he (the farmer) would be the one to tell you for sure, but maybe those particular areas have weed problems.
I know this...........It's a very common thing these days & it drives us duck hunters crazy!

Maybe they are disking areas that were rutted up over the course of the year. Can't think of a good reason to till a portion of a field.

Probably this or he's plowing just the portion that floods so that the stalks don't float away and pile up. Floodwater will push the stalks into large piles and make a mess or clog up drainage ditches.
