MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
In light of the deer baiting bill mysteriously getting approved by the Wildlife Commission and the on going scandal where a new DEQ ruling would accentually make every public waterway in the state posted, I would like to see every Commission Meeting broadcasted on public TV. Other states do it. It's about time MS does too.

I agree. Too much shadiness and you have to keep tabs on everything. Maybe Scott Coopwood the delta media guy could help with this. He might send another self absorbed press release about his accomplishments though. We need a do over with how our commissioners are appointed to ensure they are for the everyday sportsman and betterment of the states resources versus their personal agendas.

I think that is a fine idea.Don Miller wrote:In light of the deer baiting bill mysteriously getting approved by the Wildlife Commission and the on going scandal where a new DEQ ruling would accentually make every public waterway in the state posted, I would like to see every Commission Meeting broadcasted on public TV. As an aside, in the last few years the Republicans have control the MS Legislature for the first time since reconstruction. The majority, if not all, of the wildlife commissioners are big donor republicans. Sam Polles, from what I understand, is a democrat, but our governor and lt. governor are republicans (at least Tate says he is). However, it appears that cronyism is more rampant now than every before with special interest and the wealthy few running roughshod over the rest.
Re: MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
You might have better info than me, but I strongly doubt Mr. Polles is a democratic. Everything else seems spot on.

Re: MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
It's way past time to put the MDWF&P Commission activities under the microscope of public scrutiny. It has been turned into a den of cronies for private special interests over the public interest.
The Dept staff are, for the most part, good folks. But, they are not free to say what they really think. They are the ones with the knowledge and expertise. But the nonelected Commission can ignore such to their own devises.
Game wardens have been threatened with their jobs for simply doing their jobs, if their actions in some way threaten those special interests.
We have at least one Commissioner who has never seen a public body of water that he didn't want to privatize or control with a draw. The idea of a public body of water open to the public for freelance waterfowl hunting makes him bristle.
It's time for some changes. And only those of us who care can be those instruments of change.
Perhaps the only true change can come by replacing our current state elected officials.
Recent events have demonstrated that when it comes to cronyism, whether the official sports an R or a D, makes no difference. We need good, true public servants to run for office.
If the current group represents what being a Republican is all about, then count me out.
I'm about ready to vote for the truck driver.

Po Monk, I concur wholeheartedly. Also, there is a lobby and/or political action committee for most every cause under the sun with exception of the public land hunter. I think it's about time we do something about that.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:It's way past time to put the MDWF&P Commission activities under the microscope of public scrutiny. Re: MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
I know Scott Coopwood personally and he is a good guy in my book. He was the lone vote against deer baiting. The rest, particularly Deviney, could use a reality check.
Re: MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
This is not the 1980s. MDWFP needs to reinvent its governance or be prepared accept a public mandate.
Re: MDWFP-A little transparency would be nice.
All commissioners will be in Cruger this afternoon on a dove hunt if anyone wants to crash and get a few words in.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)
