Re: Ask DS drywall
He's talking about board feet of wall space not square foot of living space. That's a good number for my area for a basic house.

Re: Ask DS drywall
I know. My wall space and ceiling totals about 1065 for the room we are redoing. Was quoted $1500 to hang and finish it, or $1.41/sqft. $0.45 is awesome comparatively. Hell, I'll pay $0.60 if they do a good job.Wildfowler wrote:He's talking about board feet of wall space not square foot of living space. That's a good number for my area for a basic house.

Re: Ask DS drywall
That's a builder price for new construction spec house too. I don't think $1000-1500 is unreasonable for an addition like you just described. Is it just just one open room? Or closet, bathroom, etc?
the guy I use would probably charge more for that sort of thing.

It is an "L" shaped room with 4 windows and 3 doors that we have gutted to the studs.Wildfowler wrote: Is it just just one open room? Or closet, bathroom, etc?

Well, I got nothing else to suggest. That one doesn't sound horribly cut up. You might be experiencing the laws of supply and demand in your area. Less supply of labor.
Are you going to install crown molding and put window casing around the windows? Tell them they can leave the windows unfinished and tell them all they have to do is tape the ceiling joint since it will be covered with crown.
The additional trim cost would probably exceed the reduction in drywall cost if you were not otherwise planning on doing this.

The price for Teul isn't so much supply and demand, as it is economy of scale. Given the time and trips back to sand, etc., someone has to charge more to make up for a smaller job, whereas they can charge less on a whole-house job
Re: Ask DS drywall
Ballpark .43 a ft with stipple ceilings
It's .53 ft with flat ceilings.
That's a standard 9 ft ceiling. Taller ceilings price is higher.

I just pd $.47 for a 3700' house. Has round corners down and a 20' ceiling in the den
I also just paid $1500 for a small bonus room.

This is exactly true. I pay my guys .50/ft. for new construction. We negotiate remodels and it is considerably more.

Re: Ask DS drywall
I went to lowes... Bought 1/2 inch sheets in an attempt to do it my self.. Made the first 3 cuts.. Put my knife down and called someone.
Since I already had stripped to the studs and purchased the drywall.. Guy charged 750 to hang, mud and sand in my den. 16 ft wide and 32 ft long
