Hosemann steals six mile lake!
Re: WHAT A CROCK
That's some real nifty maps you got there dan. Got 50s era maps for Bolivar county? 70 something is all I got. I'd love to see what this place looked like before they leveled everything.

Re: WHAT A CROCK
Thanks DanP. Excellent information.
Too bad we can't get such from our own state government agencies. All we get are back room deals with little to no transparency.
So, based upon this information, it appears that the contentions by the SOS that the weir project was dependent upon the refuge, and dependent upon such refuge not being open to hunting, just simply are not true.

Re: WHAT A CROCK
The weir will maintain higher more consistent water levels. Will it hold more water on the SOS's property?
The SOS said the refuge will help the deer and turkey hunting. How much of the refuge is dry land?

Re: WHAT A CROCK
So with DanP's post does this mean that after the weir is built and the refuge acreage subtracted there will be more huntable area?

My understanding is that it will closer to the way it was before the river dredging.

Re: WHAT A CROCK
The only deer and turkey on that refuge would be those swimming through.
I've seen deer swimming, but never a turkey. But hey, I'm no expert. Whose to say they don't enjoy a little cool dip every now and then.

Because they are going to use the land acquired from six mile to get a grant to put the weir in.SWAG wrote:I do not understand what the connection is to the weir and the making a refuge of Six Mile....the weir, per Dan P maps is shown well to the southwest. Build the weir, but leave Six Mile hunting as is. I do not hunt the oxbow so no bias here.

The grant application applied for provides for a weir in Money Bayou as well as a weir in Matthews Brake. Without a land grant match, there would be almost no chance of obtaining the public grant money.

Re: WHAT A CROCK
Ok, i'm no expert , but wont the weir make the waterway unnavagable? if so, the weir accomplishes what they really want, it will give the watterway unnavagable status, then they can say private..stateowned..whatever, keep ya ninga booty out.
Re: WHAT A CROCK
Water laws suck ass in this state, just saying. It should be to were flood level is and be done with it. The only time I had a game warden know the law was while I was in school in Starkville and he threatened the idiot for Hunter harassment. Now around Natchez good luck dealing with the tool bags around here. You can show them on a map a gps saying you're in la and they will say well Mr rich landowner says he owns it and it's in ms. Look at the "@#$%#" map retard. You work for the people not just money bags.
