wood ducks...?

Postby crow » Wed Jan 19, 2005 9:17 am

Are y'all seeing many wood ducks this year? The places I hunted, in years past, were covered up with woodies to the point they were almost nuisances. This year, I bet I saw maybe 10 wood ducks flying. It continues a trend of fewer woodies that I have noticed for several years now. That really concerns me.

What about you guys?

Is there any other kind of duck?

If it weren't for woodies I wouldn't have a season. I don't notice any less.
I do notice that they do not stand hunting pressure and move.

They seemed to be a little down this year. I have not shot one yet.

We had a bunch in Quiteman County up until two weeks ago. I guess they have moved south... Did not see any this weekend.

Tons of smiley's though...
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Saw more this year in the early season than the past three seasons. They bugged out around Christmas. Only seen a few since then. Went to a spot where they always roost throughout the season just to check it out. No ducks at the roost.

Didn't see as many early but have tons of them now in our swamp holes.
They have saved a lot of skunkings the past few weeks.
