it might from that close..it stings a little @ 3 feet. they are a ton-o-fun!!! i use kosher salt in mine...bigger sharper edges!

Speaking of flies, is it just in my area or is everyone experiencing a huge amount of flies this summer? I can't open my garage door for 10 minutes without it filling up with flies. And God forbid I light the grill on the patio. What can you spray to get rid of them? I've sprayed some malithion but it didn't phase them one bit.

A metered sprayer mounted above your door will do the trick....get one at any hardware store....I think Walmart carries them, too....a bit pricey, but one can lasts about a month....they work and its worth it.
