Government doesn't marry people. judge, captain, priest, etc marry people. Gov't only recognizes and issues certificates, prob because of the tax benefits etc. Government also sets the standards/dictates who can be the person to marry someone.

Why does one have to have a license to marry to begin with? I've always wondered that. Is there a fee or tax associated with it?

So the gov indirectly has their hand in the people marrying business!!

Why wouldn't they be if their are tax benefits etc? Very logical

God gives me free will to choose and decide if I want to wallow in sin, and so why should I not let someone choose and decide if they want to wallow in sin? Let them be. The unrest will not stop, because the issue is not one of society and our "laws"; the issue is much bigger than that. The gay activist/columnist,Savage is his last name, I think, is already hollering about transgender rights.

I have a few friends that are gay. One of my mom's best friends has been gay his entire life. They know that I do not agree with their lifestyle, but I do not hate them. God knows I do NOT want to be on that pedestal to judge. The only man that ever lived who can bear that burden is doing just that for me. And yeah, Jesus WAS a man's man. What he did would be like me going into a federal agency building and cracking the literal whip so they'll get some work done. The fact that Jesus was "ballsy" is something that has been totally lost on an entire generation- my generation- of men. I grew up thinking this Jesus fairy tale dude was a puzz.

I propose this: All homosexuals are welcome to come to my church. Always. However, just as I endure sermons that convict me of my sins, they should not rise up and threaten to burn the building down if they hear a sermon convicting them of their sin. Therein lies the problem: their sin is one they continually entrench themselves in. It hardens their hearts towards God, and therefore toward me and my family.

The issue is the lifestyle- it is one that perpetuates rebellion. The issue is not this particular issue- it is the changing society as a whole, and the followers of Jesus being alienated. We will be persecuted, bank on it. We are assured of this.

I read a book one time that said, "Surely we Christians don't think God allowed man to continue living so he could drive nice cars, have a comfy home and listen to good music?" That's not our reason for existence. This comfy life WILL come to an end. But it will all be good because God's glory is the only good that is good. Take solace that all that happens is His will. When you feel like the world is spinning out of control and there is nothing you can do about it... that's because there is in fact nothing you can do about it.

The reason God is against it is because He did not make it this way. And in the beginning, it was good. All that we have created falls apart- just ask the Corps of Engineers. We are to be fruitful and multiply. We are defiantly defying God's law. My heterosexual sin was no less disgusting than homosexual sin. My pride, arrogance, greed, etc., is no less disgusting than homosexuality, to God. The difference is that instead of digging myself deeper into the pit, through no effort of my own, I have begun to climb out.

Romans 1:18-25 is my favorite passage of Scripture. It is a passage that helped bring me out of the despair of atheism and begin to understand the fear (knowledge) of God. If God is giving us over to ourselves, then who are we to stop Him?

Those of you who belittle a brother of Jesus do not understand where he comes from. The disgust of homosexuality is revolting because it is unnatural, yes. The thought of a man craving another mans ballsack and hairy butthole is odd (but I can see where lesbians might feel differently). But the real reason is our fear of God and love for his life-giving power. Sure there are those of us who are pious and judgmental and self-righteous; that man will see death just as sure as a militant lesbian atheist. (If it, homosexuality, were natural, would we be having a debate right now? If death were natural, would we be debating killing humans in the womb? Do we debate whether letting humans be born is right or not? Do we debate if water is better for you than Mountain Dew? No...we don't. Some "thing" is not right about homosexuality, and so we debate it. And so God says, " His attributes are clearly visible...He has written His law on our hearts and His creation...we will be without excuse.")

I read the book "Resurgence" awhile back. The author makes the point by asking this question, "What do you do when the government says something is lawful, but God says it is not?" What do you do? You suffer persecution, that's what. What is happening is what we have been told will happen: The church will shrink to a small, yet core group of truly devout followers.

I think you naysayers will eat crow one day, if we are all alive to see the result of the question asked above. Just like black society and its problems that it thought it mostly solved in the 60's...this ain't over yet. The activist will sleep for a little while, enjoy the victory if you will. But you naysayers can Mark. My. Word. Write it down: I or my descendants will be persecuted (for real) for our fear of God.

Ya'wanna bet?

I do not agree with homosexuality. I see the "big picture" and how it affects me in the future, but I do not see any point in actively fighting it. My days under the sun are hard enough as it is to be worryin' bout some other dude. But I am not going to pretend that the strange man at the door is always going to stay outside. No, the homosexual agenda feels perfectly content to meddle in my life- and he will sooner or later. You watch and see.

sab316 wrote:I'm with the others who said "Who cares?" It doesn't affect you. It doesn't negatively affect you're every day-to-day life. Who's to tell a man / man or woman / woman (who many on this board would be willing to watch them consummate that gay marriage) that they can't love each other and marry. This nation is a nation of FREEDOM, maybe these men and women aren't Christian (WHICH IS PERFECTLY OKAY IN THESE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) so why shouldn't they be able to marry if THEIR religion doesn't forbid it? If two people love each other, whether they are man, woman, purple, white, black, yellow or orange, they should be able to be with one another.

This isn't going to affect you're every day life. This isn't going to make your gas prices go up, or milk cost more at the Wally World. This isn't going to be the end of the world, and God isn't going to smite everyone for the Government allowing "them gays" to marry. Get over it, its not the 1960's anymore, its time to move FORWARD.

All sins are equal in the eyes of God, correct? So you're cussing, or thinking about that good looking woman walking down the street are just as bad as banging a dude. Little food for thought.
Don't think many on here care to much about gays doing what they do. Don't think many on here would object to civil unions for gays. What we object to is the counterfeiting of the union that we have known being between a man and a woman for centuries called Marriage. They have bastardized the namesake. We are also frustrated that such a small minority have the ability to strong arm an entire nation and we stand back and take it on the chin. This is the American Patriot in me. The Christian in me hates seeing people that are damning themselves to an eternity in torment beyond what our human minds can fathom. Whether they believe in it or not doesn't make it less of a fact. When you allow Marriage to become something that it was never intended to be you devalue it for the people that believe in it's real meaning. No one is perfect. We all fall short of the Glory of God. Yet we were still sinners Christ died for us. The only unpardonable sin is the rejection of the Holy Spirit. Anyone who is willingly committing sin with no remorse or feelings of sorry for the act they are committing are in the process of Rejecting the Holy Spirit. Marriage is defined by God, not by man.

And for those that call themselves Christians and are supportive of "gay marriage", you should really think hard about what you are saying and use a lot of caution. This guy pretty much sums it up.

I can see this as sticking point. Marriage, as many do define it, is through their god. However, marriage was around long before Judeo-Christian definition. It was just before the english language was around. Marriage as a definition is combining two things together. Thus translating well into being the Hebrew word for marriage when relating to two married people. English does not have the breadth of words to define something that other languages do. The most common analogy is that Hebrew has many different words that English just lumps into the one word 'love'. Thus the gov't uses the word 'Marriage' when it comes to legal civil unions between a heterosexual couple since the beginning, even though it might have taken place at city hall and wasn't a religious ceremony.

People are so hung up on a word. Most people will say that "I'm fine with a civil union, but it's not a marriage!" Okay, but in reality it's the same thing, it's just what it's called. So even though an atheist couple gets married at town hall, it's still legally a marriage. I don't see people up in arms over this. People like yourself are protesting that "marriage is defined by God and not gov't/man". But it is legally through gov't, and has been for a very long time. It just that now that two dudes or two chicks can do it that people are getting all huffy. If you want to define marriage as a religious bond between a man and woman, and that any "marriage" done outside the lines of a church, mosque, or synagogue, is a "civil union", then have at it. But what will you call that couple (even if it is a hetero couple)? Will they say "we are civil-unioned"? No. They'll say "we are married".

There is only one God and he is the same for everyone. People say "My god wouldn't do this or that" but that is making God what we want him to be to suit us. He created us and His will will be done no matter what we want or think. If we "choose" a lifestyle contrary to his will then his word says we will have chosen for ourselves an eternity of punishment and torment if we do not turn from that choice. God established the relationship for a man and a woman back in Genesis 2.

But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

That is what you believe and that is fine. All I was saying is that there are many different religions in the world and each have their own version of what they believe. The Hindu religion has many gods, Native American's believe many different gods, where as the Judeo-Christian belief is in a single deity. I'm not debating who's right, I'm just saying that for most religious people, regardless of their chosen religion, believe that marriage is a bond thru their religion/god/gods.

The US trades, most notably buys oil, with/from countries that have much more negative views on homosexuality than we do. We never hear anything from the democrats about this?

There are several major religions across the world. Which of those condone gay marriage historically?

Regardless of where you stand religiously and/or morally on this issue, the economic costs will be high. Your wife is carried on your insurance, now the same will be true for anyone that is married. Churches and businesses that refuse to serve the gay community will be sued. What happens to the military? Openly gay now? This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there will be nowhere in our society that will not be affected. Just another enormous distraction.
