Cicadas
What the H311 happened?!?!?!? I've never seen it this bad before! They've gotten in the garage and even tried to fly into the mud room! Are they as bad in your areas too?
Nobody owes you anything.

Re: Cicadas
I was in Brookhaven last weekend and noticed how bad they were there. Thank goodness I haven't seen or heard any around my house yet.

They are the once every 13 year variety in addition to the normal ones.

Re: Cicadas
They are loud at our house and my wooden fence is covered in them. Loud enough we can hear them inside.

Re: Cicadas
Just mowed the yard and the adults and their shells are everywhere. On every tree, bush, and all over my shed. And there are are holes all over the yard where they came up.
So, question. These are what are grubs in yard until they mature right? How can I kill them now before they lay eggs and make more grubs? The moles are crazy in my yard and I'd love to get rid of their food source so they will go elsewhere.

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: Cicadas
13 yr cicada. They live near the base of trees and eat root juice. Slightly tough on trees before they emerge but do help the turkeys. They will be gone by the end of the month. They also help aeriate the yard.

I have not seen or heard any around forest - and I've been out side a good bit.
Took the kids over to jelly Stone in Pelahatchie and it was a constant ringing in the air and shells and bugs everywhere.

Not as bad this time around at my home, it may be because I removed 3 trees since their last hatch in 2002. Still everywhere though.

And they make excellent bb gun targets and kites (tie a string around one of their legs).. At least this is what they were to me as a kid...

Re: Cicadas
They're so noisy in my neighborhood that it sounds like a bad sci-fi movie sound effect in Clinton. I mowed 'em all up yesterday, so I am really hoping that we get some rain to wash the bug parts and pieces away before it gets to stinking around our place. (It is SUPPOSSED to rain all week and wash everything down.)
Nobody owes you anything.

Sounds like a high pitched version of the World Cup vuvuzelas out where I stay!
