It's possible. However, why risk it for 15 extra horsepower that will make very little difference versus a 50hp. You might get 3-4 MPH better. With a 50hp you should easily get 35 - 40 mph in a 16' boat depending on the weight. If we were talking about going from 50 to 90 (provided the boat was rated for such), then that would be a different story. But we are talking about a 10% speed increase.deltadukman wrote:Not if you answered the app and quoted honestly.

I wouldn't do it, myself.
Just my thoughts. Otherwise, It's your money and life.
- Hull is too light - motor too heavy
- hull too thin - stump stress with that much weight that far back (under the back seat) translates to metal fatigue at the cross ribs = leaks = welding after every season is over - every season
- control issues in rough water
- Draft in shallow water - unless you put a hydraulic jack plate to trim-up in the shallows, the weight of the engine will drive the stern down. To get clearance on the prop, you'll have to tilt the motor up at such an angle that any thrust above an idle will just drive the transom (and prop) back in the muck.
- If the Grizzly is not an all-welded hull, you'll eventually have leaks, especially if you hunt in ice. Less motor = safe rating and longer durability
Just my thoughts. Otherwise, It's your money and life.

Re: Ask DS: What is TOO much motor?
So your vehicle that you currently drive has more horsepower than you'll ever use what's the difference in having the same option in your boat
Surely those will rub off
Surely those will rub off

I spoke with a couple of guys at the mdwfp office in Jackson about hp rating a few years ago... I was told that as long as the motor, gear, and passengers didn't overload the weight rating you were good... But who knows, that's been 6 years ago...
