Today!!!!!
Re: Today!!!!!
Working with banks and Credit unions in my past job, our clients in Texas would tell us how when times are good in the oil market (2-3 years ago), those roughnecks would blow money left and right on brand knew F250 King Ranch yada yada trucks and liquor. As soon as the market drops, their parking lots would be filled with those trucks after they were repo'd. I imagine they are starting to collect a few right now.
Though, to the point of the original post, I not quite sure why the significance of being overly proud of having a husband that works in the oil field. Not that it's not a good job and all, but why would it be different if her husband was an accountant or a manager at Kroger just as very general examples of normal jobs. I guess I'm not sure what makes working in the oil field so significant as to put a big sticker on a truck or on a t-shirt advertising that. I guess I'll have to get shirts made that say "Proud husband of a drug rep" and she'll get "My man is a procurement manager". Doesn't have quite the same ring as "Pipeline Trash", but I guess I'm not as imaginative with superlatives.

Re: Today!!!!!
I think you guys are over thinking it which is exactly the problem... you are thinking. Not to sound pretentious but I believe education might be a factor. You don't have a "Procurement Trash" stick for the same reason that you contribute to your 401k instead of making payments on a F250 King Ranch and the new fishing boat behind it. Not that there is anything wrong with having these things if they are within your means.

Iron grip the reason I said that is b/c I have relatives and friends that have stuck up for the CFO's raises for the past numerous years as they have shafted the American public, even in years of economic downturn.iron grip wrote:Old news... Don't really see the amusement in that though. More people that normally contribute to our society now looking for jobs. Kind of not funny...

Re: Today!!!!!
To the point of the original post (and the stickers about loggers) and also duramax's question:
Because I am working on being a narcissist, I ask the question: Am I the only one who notices the seemingly historical archiving of a going extinct America by mass media? The insanity of it all is that the wannabe assassin is also the archivist presenting the material to the illiterate audience who gobbles it up. I don't watch TV much, I just never really have, but when I do turn it on, I am always shocked by the absolute BULL $#!+ that people watch these days!
It is absolute, unadulterated bull $#!+ filled with boorish, fake, predictable, immature, insulting, poisonous and incorrect content. It always features the root'nst, toot'nst, beard-growin, wilderness-livin, fish-catchin, deer murderin', pickup truck driving mf'er you folks have ever seen!
Sounds good right? This is a good description of me, albeit a diminished one. Maybe it is a description of you, albeit an exaggerated one.
HOWEVER...the fine-print advertising that the oilfield, loggin' trashy types never read says:
He's also bigoted and he's racist'y (hey, we never said he WAS a racist). That means you will see REAL UNEDITED UNBIASED entertainment of real folks who are: republicans, womanizers, oppressed women, ignorant, blue-collar, alcoholics, clumsy, arrogant, narrow-minded, incapable, dangerous, unbending in their idiocy, and last but not least they have BIBLES and say "god" and some of them may even mention the word JESUS!!! Who knows? So tune in folks and see why these people, their culture, their beliefs, their lifestyles and their way of existence under this sun is immoral, irrelevant, dangerous and contrary to common sense. And see why they are in need of being forced into OUR way of thinking and doing.
If being white and southern isn't enough to get me stereotyped more than any other ethnic background of people in the world, then having a beard and going duck hunting makes me a duck commander.
Heaven forbid I say, "Shoot him."
If this Mississippi Men show takes off (it may have, I was hoping it'd fold or the camera equipment would spontaneously explode), then I'd better not even go NEAR a river, much less take a boat on one for ANY activity. I can hear it now, "Hey I see you're on that there boat in that there river, what are ye? A Mississippi Man?" If somebody does this to me, I'm gonna punch them in the phalanges as hard as I can.
I understand WHY it is being done. What I do not understand is those folks' ignorance of what they are doing and the magnitude of it.
The significance, I would reckon, is because the networks have yet to make a reality show out of it. I assume one has been made about them. If not it will be. I can imagine the poor high school senior who job shadows an oilfield trash worker and finds out it is not as real and entertaining as expected. Perhaps the folks are a bit more stable than assumed, or perhaps not.duramax wrote:I not quite sure why the significance of being overly proud of having a husband that works in the oil field. Bahaha! Funny (and sad) but true. He leaves her at home by herself for half the year with a nice house, a nice ride and plenty of spending money. I have seen many a young roughneck making big money end up blowing half of it on a foolish woman. There is going to be a lot of heartache and divorces as long as this market correction continues.deltadukman wrote:Those stickers are code talk for "Jody come flock me"

What would punching them in the hands and feet accomplish?greenheadgrimreaper wrote:If somebody does this to me, I'm gonna punch them in the phalanges as hard as I can.
Re: Today!!!!!
Solid rant that I agree with most wholeheartedly. Save for the point I've never heard anyone say they'd punch someone in the fingers.greenheadgrimreaper wrote:... If somebody does this to me, I'm gonna punch them in the phalanges as hard as I can.

Winner winner chicken dinner!!! Oilfield or military ain't much difference except the pay. There is a reason they have a "Jody" while their husbands are gone on military leave or oilfield stints. Not to say there aren't some faithful ones but "Jody" wasn't made up for nothing. Kinda like opening day of deer season.....many a wives live for that weekend!!!! They need a deer hunters wife sticker.

Re: Today!!!!!
I saw a HOE LIFE sticker on a back window in Southaven the other day. Big bold letters it cover the whole window. That has to make Mom proud.
