Odd smell in the woods

Postby hillhunter » Mon Mar 16, 2015 6:42 pm

Ok go ahead and make all the fart jokes and crapping in the woods jokes at my expense, couldn't think of a better thread line.

Seriously, my brother and I were walking out at dusk Saturday afternoon and ran across a very musty odd smell. It smelled just like a sweaty horse if you know what that smells like, but very musty and strong. The leaves were sort of ruffled in the area the first time we came across it, but we both noticed it and both described the smell the same. This was in the middle of some hardwoods. Few hundred yards later we smelled it again although not as strong and this time was on the edge of CRP and some hardwoods by a big water puddle. It seemed strange to me, there is not a horse within half mile of this place and there was no sign of one. Been walking woods a long time and never smelled anything like it. Any idea what it might have been?
