870 Turkey gun
870 Turkey gun
I recently got an 18.5" 870 barrel with a Remchoke. Anybody used this barrel for turkey hunting? What kind of choke and loads have you found that pattern well.

Indian creek choke tube
Life's too damned complicated to make it too damned complicated
Re: 870 Turkey gun
I've got an old 870 SP Turkey that came with a 21" barrel. Many years ago, I got a Rhino .660 and shoot nitros through it. It's a killer. These days I would look at indian creek like Johnny said, or sumtoy or perhaps jebs. Good luck.

I know a lot of people that have great success with jellyhead chokes out of 870's. That is where I would start if I were you.

Jellyhead and Kicks seem to be what I hear about out of 870 folks.

Re: 870 Turkey gun
I have the full camo 870 Super Mag with the SPS stock. I shoot 3.5" Hevi Shot Magnum Blends through a Jellyhead choke and believe you me it is deadly. I killed severl last year that were stone cold dead, no flop.

Re: 870 Turkey gun
Remington makes a super full turkey choke for 870...I've shot more than I can count with 3" Federal Mag-Shok #5 and Winchester Supreme #6 out of a Remington 870 Express Magnum with Remington super full turkey choke.
If you call them in...let them be a little bit still and you take good shots you won't ever need anything more.
If you planning to shoot long ways and swing on birds, crawling em and all that, I guess you better gear up?

I too shoot Indian Creek out of my 20 ga. 870. I love it. My brother shoots a 28 in bare 870 with a Carlson tube. He's killed them further than I've ever seen turkeys shot with that gun.
