Re: Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech - Orange Bowl
Given the matchup...I don't see a scenario that GaTech could win. Surely MSU will be prepared to shut down the option and the offense will score enough regardless good, bad, or mediocre day...

Johnson is 1-5 in bowl games. When teams have time to prepare for the option, they normally win.

Re: Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech - Orange Bowl
a month to prepare and still got it ran down their throat. I figured the rebs would get beat but not as bad as they did but the dawsgs really disappointed me. They got the dream matchup...all they had to do was stop the run which in the past bowl games with time to prepare wasn't a problem for most teams. Oh well state ended the season on a really sour note. Least the rebs had the MSU win to save a season. Least freeze got is raise before that pitiful performance.

Defending the triple option offense is simple fundamental defense. Hail we can't even tackle and lock up. Arm tackling and not wrapping up is a major problem for our defense.

Re: Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech - Orange Bowl
I really do not know why everyone thought MSU was going to win this game, I never did. Especially considering Tech had beat Georgia in Athens, and darn near beat FSU. Against Ole Miss the previous year, Tech fielded what could be the worst QB I have ever seen try to run the triple option. He was scared of getting hit, way too gun shy, and couldn't make the mesh read. And the defense was horrid. I had Ole Miss by 20.
In the Orange Bowl, Tech was just better. And if the QB knows what he is doing, the triple option is a disaster to defend, but only if the offense is running it correctly. The data is skewed, Tech has fared poorly recently in the post season due to having bad QBs and defenses, not the time opponents have to prepare. Oh there may be SOME portion of that true, but mostly a crappy team lost. Past teams were barely eligible to play in a bowl, and I don't think they were good enough to be there at all.
Georgia schedules a FCS triple O team the week before they play Tech, or sometimes they take a BYE week. It didn't help them this time, Tech shoved it down their throat. This was a really good Tech team. And they seemed to even pick up steam and almost blindsided FSU (Winston, BTW had an absolutely PERFECT game, something he never does).
Tech actually has a perfect true triple option QB now, so it will be interesting to see how far they can go, and if they ever able to field a good defense to go along with their offense, it is over for the rest of the ACC.

Not for lack of trying. I had an open registration for well over a year that only recently got approved (from asking someone on another website to approve me, no less). What is up with that? Nevertheless, I generally hang out and post worthless garbage about sports on a sports website that I will not mention here due to etiquette.jtdumallard wrote:Welcome to the party two months late.
Anyway, it has been an interesting two years as a Tech fan living in Mississippi. I wish we could do some more games with you guys, especially since it would be easily drivable for me.
Good luck next year guys.
