Don't know if i have ever seen this question on here.... so ill ask. if i don't get feedback, ill sleep tonight.
More so curious.
What shells do you use? and why? Or are you the guy that buys whatever is on sale?
Also, what choke do you use? why that one? do you try to match shells with choke?
ready, go.
Shell and choke question.....

It's been asked.......and answered many ways. But just for you........jkb87 wrote:Don't know if i have ever seen this question on here.... so ill ask.
Winchester Supremes (now called Drylock Super Steel High Velocity).......better quality shot than Xpert HV's although not as fast........100fps slower, but 1/8oz more shot (I think). We use Xpert HV's in Canada because they're up close. Re: Sale.......we shoot cheap shells when we are assured our targets will be relatively close (inside 20-25yds consistently). When hunting down here, we just went to Supremes all-around this year.......just to reduce loss of cripples. I use to keep some Hevi-shot in the bag for cripples on the water but they kick too damn much. Fortunately, we have enough dog to handle cripples unless it's deep and swift-moving water or really icey conditions. What shells do you use? and why? Or are you the guy that buys whatever is on sale?
IC @ first light and out to 25yds. When the sun comes-up higher and I can pick-out targets against a dark background better, I'll switch to Mod......and also go to Mod for 'swim-in's and if I think shots will be from 20 - 35 yds. Generally don't shoot @ anything outside of 40. Ideally, Anne shoots Modified (very well), so I can keep IC in unless birds don't do right. As far as patterning........it's a good idea, but it's a lot of trouble. Just get your targets close and use the appropriate choke for the distances you are proficient at. I have Carlson external knurled choke tubes for quick change-out (which reminds me......I need to lube'em).......Anne uses Patternmaster Close and mid-range tubes. Also, what choke do you use? why that one? do you try to match shells with choke?

Re: Shell and choke question.....
OG Nova + IC + 3" #3 Remington Hi Speed at present. Seems to do well enough. Don't mind breaking into a box of Dry Locs either.
Where'd who go?
Re: Shell and choke question.....
I shoot Kent 3" 3's 1 1/4 have shot them since they were cheap when I got out of school about 13 years ago. They shoot very well out of my gun so I keep using them even though now they are no longer cheap shells.
Opening day I shoot IC after about the second week I go to Modified and keep it in the rest of the season.

Big fan of the Kent 3" #3s, shoot Lite Mod all the time out of a Stoeger M3500. Usually about $150/case shipped from Roger's. Patterned it one time against a creek bank and it made a round pattern so that stuff is just a waste of time IMO.

3" Drylock BB's with a mod choke. You either miss him or kill him dead. Hardly any cripples. And they are hard on Specks too!!

Re: Shell and choke question.....
Factory full, 3 in 2 shot rios! Killed plenty of ducks and geese within 45 yards with this combo. Luckily it patterns awesome out of my 1187 and shells are cheap, just have to get them before season or you cant find them anywhere.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
