Chad Kelly
Chad Kelly signed with the Rebs today. Kicked off Clemson and juco natl champ. I'm glad we signed him because I don't think Kinkade or Buchanan we're going to be successful in the SEC. From what I've seen he looks like a little better version of Bo. Hope he can stay out of trouble and win.

I read here that Kincade was Freeze's GUY.

The key to that statement is "was"stang67 wrote:I read here that Kincade was Freeze's GUY.
Re: Chad Kelly
I can't exactly say I called it but pretty close. So what kinda odds will you give me on a bet that the 2015 UM qb isn't on the roster right now?

Re: Chad Kelly
He smarted off to the coaches and was released because he displayed "behavior consistent with these actions." I guess it is/was an attitude issue.deltadukman wrote:Why was he kicked off?

Re: Chad Kelly
Actually, it was more involved than that (second hand knowledge from first hand speaking here). He had numerous verbal altercations with the Clemson staff. Then, during their spring game, he was the holder for a FG at the end of regulation. Dabo called FG, Kelly changed the play with the kicker...told the kicker to run a wheel route...kicker did...Kelly hits him for a TD...B team beats A team.champcaller wrote:He smarted off to the coaches and was released because he displayed "behavior consistent with these actions." It gets better.
Dabo was livid and confronts Kelly. Kelly shoves Dabo and a real deal fight ensues wherein they have to be separated. Kelly is immediately kicked off of the team.
So, what can we take from that?
- Kelly likes to win;
- Kelly will overrule a coach.
Even his JUCO coach says he is "spirited"...

All is all, I think it was a move of necessity by Freeze. Kelly likely makes Ole Miss a contender in the West next year, as opposed to middle of the pack. Neither Buchanan or Kincade are capable right now. Also was told by the same person that Kincade is going to transfer - possibly to TCU. Thought that was interesting given the bowl match-up.
My prediction is that Kelly has a couple of really good years in Oxford and breaks some of Bo's records. I also predict that there will be some noteworthy extracurricular activity on the part of Kelly - hey, someone has to fill Marshall Henderson's shoes.

Re: Chad Kelly
I'm disappointed. I expected Kincaide to develop into the starter with Buchanan being a solid backup after Bo. I thought on paper that Kincaide was a Freeze offense guy, he is on paper but I guess it's not translating???
Either way, things change...I'll trust the staff that turned a Houston Nutt orchestrated dumpster fire into a contender virtually over night, including converting some "Kelly-esque" characters into solid program guys, to make smart decisions and keep winning. As a fan that follows closely, it's disappointing to see these guys that have been in the program not take over, but hey Freeze has 4 million reasons to make tough decisions that he thinks will win ballgames.
With all that said, if Kelly is gonna wear the uniform I'll support him. I'll remain optimistic he's been forced to learn from his attitude and arrogance that almost ended his career and his grown up, at least until he gives us a reason to think otherwise.
***sidenote...in fairness, Marshall Henderson was a coke head...not fair to compare a bad attitude with a dope head. Kelly might be hot headed and arrogant, but he's not been strung out that we know of.

Re: Chad Kelly
Kind of reminds me of the savior Jeremiah Masoli......
Win at all costs I reckon. I thought Freeze was a man of conviction and honor and integrity? Is Ole Miss back in the "people heppin bidness"?

Re: Chad Kelly
i'm not sold on kelly. guess we will see. bo came from emcc and his results there translated to the field. randall mackey came, his numbers where awesome and his didn't translate, neither did brent schaffer's from his juco.
as far as kelly's attitude goes, as long as freeze and staff keeps him in line and on a short rope... bring him in and see what he's got. more competition at the qb position sure won't hurt. we are loaded next year and we have to have just decent qb play going through the year.

Re: Chad Kelly
I think Kelly will be much more Bro Wallace/Zach Mettenberger than Scheaffer or Masoli. He is a very talented kid. With the players returning for OM (including RN, LT, etc.) that will be on to the NFL after 2015, this is a now or wait a while year for Freeze. As such, he took a flier on this kid and I think it will pay off. He is good for 3-4 wins for OM that they would not have had otherwise in my opinion.

Gotta be most out of context post u could come up with...Temper and attitude aren't the same as arrest and drug cases. ..Either way, win at all cost???? Eh..maybe not all cost but 4 million a year worth yeah....its about winning...but im sure Freeze "convictions" are still in place and will remain with Kelly...he had a bad temper and didnt work out at Clemson...what a thug...you'd think Freeze just bailed him out of Parchmandeltadukman wrote:Kind of reminds me of the savior Jeremiah Masoli......

Re: Chad Kelly
Kelly knows this is his last chance and changed a lot while at East. Gained a lot of respect from his teammates. Ole Ms was where he wanted to play and finally got an offer as Ole Ms waited until the season finished and really did some checking on his attitude before offering him. Also never hurts to have someone like Jim Kelly involved with your program.
One last thing go check out his girlfriend.

Re: Chad Kelly
I'm cautiously optimistic. One would think that (a) dropping from Clemson to ScoobaTech would get a man's attention and (b) UM staff been keeping close tabs on the boy considering their connections at EMCC. And, he has got to realize that his chances at NFL shot hinge on not acting the fool and on winning in the SEC.
HOWEVER, he's still a kid. Many of my decisions at age 22 were for the most part not forward-thinking, lets just say.

Yeah I appolgize, a fist fight with a coach should be looked over as just an eager kid wanting to play. Which one of the Kimdeche brothers shoved the coach out of his face last year when he was getting an earfull, I get them confused? I guess if he allows it in his program then who are we to judge.....
