As I sit here watching the Iron Bowl, I'm realizing just how tough the SEC West was this year. There was not a single team in the entire lineup that could not have beaten any other team in the West this year. From top to bottom it is stout, even if records don't reflect it. To go through the SEC with only 2-3 losses is pretty respectable. I would love to watch other teams in the nation, FSU, Oregon, TCU, Baylor, OSU, and any other one try and go through it with better results.
I think nationally the SEC probably lost face today with Georgia, FL, KY, and SC losing the nonconference games along with State losing and putting them out of the playoff picture. I think the whole conference will be judged on a weak East.
If Bama loses then I think it's a tribute to the toughness of the West, not a knock against it. If they come back and win then they obviously without discussion deserve to be there in the playoff.
