Books about duck hunting in MS.

Postby jkmjr » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:34 am

New member here. I have been following for a while, but could never get registered. One of the guys here e-mailed an admin. for me and I finally got on. Does anyone know of any books with chapters or stories about duck or deer hunting in Ms. (old or new)? I am aware of the Buckingham books and the ones written by Dr. Capooth. I am sure there are more, but I have not had any luck finding them. I am wanting the "titles" not the actual books. Thanks

Many of the Nash Buckingham books are of his hunts at Beaver Dam, Arkansas, and around Memphis back in tha day.

There are references to hunting on the coast in Van Campen Heilner's "A book on duck shooting."

There is also Joe Bosco's book on the Pascagoula decoy industry, but that is not really hunting.

I appreciate the input guys. I am collecting books and articles about hunting in Ms. to give to my 16yr.old son. He loves duck hunting and deer hunting. I wanted to start giving him some hunting related things that had some meaning and the books seemed like a good choice. Keep them coming! If anyone has any interesting articles about Ms. like the ones mentioned in the "Scatters" thread I sure would appreciate a copy. PM me if you can help.

Anything by Robert Hitt Neill. His books are great!
The Flaming Turkey
The Jakes
Going Home
The voice of Jupiter Pluvius
Dont fish under the Dingleberry Tree.

The Jakes however is my favorite. Follows a group of friends from pre teens to graduation of high school. Only book that has ever made me laugh out loud.

When Ducks Were Plenty The Golden Age of Waterfowling and Duck Hunting from 1840 till 1920 [Ed Muderlak]

One of the best books you will ever read about duck hunting. Its not specificly about hunting in Mississippi but spends alot of time on MS hunting.

There have been several titles mentioned that I was not aware of. Keep them coming. I know there are not a lot of books with Ms. ties, but there may be a few more. Thanks

I like Holt Collier. Not as much about hunting but does have references. I think I have one called 10 point or something to that nature about MS first hunting clubs. Not sure though.
