Bridge
Bridge
Anyone ever had to build a bridge over a creek for home access? I'm looking at buying 30ac but will have to cross a creek for permanent access. I can put a 6' culvert in and riprap/dirt for the construction phase but will need a bridge for more permanent access - something along the lines of 50'. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Bridge
We did some at our camp with 50" tractor trailer flat beds..... we only used one on each crossing and they were great. We actualy just got the frame and had a trac hoe and operator set the frames and then we came back and put all the wood on it like we wanted our selves. You could drive pretty much anything across them (tractors, equipment, trucks, etc.). If you wanted it wider of course jsut get 2. THey were really nice bridges

I have seen people get a old not in use railroad flat car and have the axles and wheels removed and use it. Would require a crane of course.

I had concrete and steel bridge built for my driveway. I'll do my best to answer questions if you have them.

Not sure I'd drive my truck over that thing several times a day though.ACEINTHEHOLE wrote:Do a search for the bridge MSDuckmen built. It is a thing of beauty.

What ever you do, keep in mind that you will want it to hold enough load to get a 50K pound fire truck right up to your house.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: Bridge
All terrain bridge company should be able to handle it in a professional way.
Re: Bridge
Fill the creek with dirt in the area that you want the bridge and place forms on the fill dirt. You will want it at least 12' wide and overlap the banks at least 10'. Have post tension cables placed and then pour concrete inside forms. Have cables stressed and wreck forms. Dig out as much dirt as possible with excavator and push a piece of drill stem through what dirt is left and pull it back out. This will allow rain to wash dirt out from under bridge leaving a clear span. We have several of these and they have worked well for the last 20 years. It will be more of an undertaking than some other ideas, but your grandkids can use the bridge to come visit.

You got any pics? I need something that looks nice. How long is yours? Price? Pm me if you want.
I had considered the rail car or flatbed frame route but want to make sure it looks nice. Also need to make sure it holds a fire truck. There is a guy here in town that does work with metal I-beams I may go that route.

Re: Bridge
Because there is a flood plain on the east side of the creek. I will have to build up 5' of road for about another 50' after the bridge.3spop wrote:why not go with a culvert?
