Ok. I'll alert all schools that Jeff and Wikipedia are the only source for legitimizing national champions. LolGreenhead22 wrote:Never been on elitedawgs. They were named National Champions by the FWAA in '60, a poll that was not used to declare the consensus national champion. They finished 2nd in the AP and 3rd in Coaches poll that year. Give me a few minutes, and I'll post the same information on all 3 years that I've used every single time I've heard a Rebel fan talk about their NC's. They finished 2nd in both the AP and Coaches poll behind Syracuse in '59 also.
In 1959, Syracuse University was crowned as the national champion by both the AP and the UPI wire services. Mississippi (Ole Miss), which had outscored its opponents 350-21, finished #2 in both polls, and its only loss during the regular season had been to LSU, which ultimately finished #3. Ole Miss would defeat LSU 21-0 four weeks later in the Sugar Bowl. As such, Ole Miss was ranked #1 by Berryman, Billingsley, Dunkel and Sagarin, although the AP and UPI were the accepted polls at the time.
During the 20th century, the NCAA had no playoff for the college football teams that would later be described as "Division I-A." The NCAA did recognize a national champion based upon the final results of "wire service" (AP and UPI) polls.
With both the AP and UPI finishing their voting before the bowl games, the championship was determined in December. The AP writers divided among Minnesota (8-1-0), Mississippi (9-0-1) and Iowa (8-1-0), and some voters split their choices. As such, the Minnesota Gophers received 17½ votes for #1, Mississippi got 16, and Iowa 12½. Minnesota had 433½ poll points, ahead of 411 for Ole Miss and 407½ for Iowa. Minnesota was also the #1 choice in the UPI coaches poll.
In 62, USC was declared #1 by both AP and UPI, as well as 7 other polling applications.

I didn't get everything from Wikipedia, boss. I've done my research. As for Bama, can they legitimately claim 15 .... I doubt it. I'll argue their claims til I'm 6' under. I'm as legitimate as the photo that Ole Miss posted on their Twitter account with 3 BCS trophies as part of the 3 NC claims ...... let that sink in.
In my 34 years, I have yet to see a National Championship trophy, much less 3, provided as fact by the University of Mississippi. Claim unofficial national championships all you want.

Bo Wallace is a lot like Brett Farve...and no I'm not comparing them player to player, just in the fact that you take the good with the bad...he's a gamer that plays hard and 100 MPH and that leads to mistakes; but it also leads to victories...as is the senior Ole Miss QB is 1-0 with 4 TD's and 3 INT in a win over a quality non-confernce opponent. I'll just take it and hope he competes like that every week...he can fix all three of those INT's he threw...I'm not concerned a bit.
As for a comment earlier from stang67....I feel pretty confident Kincaid and/or Buchanan are the next QB as Ole Miss and on the roster. Kincaid is the THE GUY recruited for Freeze system and the guy to lead the talented group of classes you are referring to in the near future. Wallace was best patch for a bad situation when Freeze first took over, he's got his guy as RS Freshman with 4 years (counting this one as backup) in the fold...

I haven't claimed a thing. It angers you enough to research it and Ole Miss lives in your head so, mission accomplished.Greenhead22 wrote:I didn't get everything from Wikipedia, boss. Re: Over/under Bo Wallace picks this week
HAHA - I know this, State better fix that D, giving up damn near 600 yards to a CUSA team at home is terrible....and Dak completing less than 50% of his passes against that team isn't exactly Heisman worthy.ScottyLee wrote:Lots of leg humpers In this thread..... Dak for he15man!!!
By the way some folks have talked about Wallace you'd think he'd have some Michael Henig type #s - he's thrown for over 700 yards, completed 73% of his passes, thrown 5 TDs and 3 INTs, while sitting out all of the 2nd half today (besides the first drive).
Wallace threw 10 picks last year, Manziel threw 13, Aaron Murray threw 9, Mettenbeger threw 8....hell, Dak threw 7 but had about 200 less attempts.
I guess it's a good thing when other fans find all kinds of faults with a team after beating Boise St (currently beating Colorado St 30-10 at halftime) by 22 points (and should've been worse) and absolutely destroying Vandy by 38 and that was after sitting the starters most of the 2nd half.
As it stands now Dak has 2 INTs this year and Wallace has 3.....

...But I'm with stang, with all that talent there's no reason they shouldn't keep rising in the polls
Re: Over/under Bo Wallace picks this week
@ Pee Wee- I have decided MSU has much worse kicking issues than a bad snap..they suck.

Mr. Perry: I realize you're from Alabama, and therefore probably get your news by pony express, but the answer to your question for this week was "zero."

If I was a Vandy student, I'd change schools
....man, that was embarrassing to watch....late field goal, and the Vandy fans went nuts....you'd thought they had won the game.

Re: Over/under Bo Wallace picks this week
Even though I reside in Alabama, I despise the entitled fans that follow that team. I have kept my season tickets since Cliff left over 10 years ago, in spite of the facts that we no longer have the Colonel, the band can't play Dixie anymore and we are letting the administration take away the "Rebel" name.GulfCoast wrote:Mr. Perry: I realize you're from Alabama, and therefore probably get your news by pony express, but the answer to your question for this week was "zero."
But...... he made a lot of dumb mistakes in critical situations last year and threw 1 into triple coverage the first week. Afetr years of mediocrity since we beat Ok. State in the Cotton Bowl, you just have to expect that the Rebs will continue to play down to the competitionexcept for LSU.
Hotty Toddy regards,
