Yamaha Big Bear Question

Postby Hybrid Biscuit » Wed Jan 12, 2005 2:32 pm

Has anyone ever had problems with their brakes? I have a '98 model and last night when I tried to ride it the brakes were locked. It would put my bike in a bind when I accelerated and when I would let off the throttle it was as if I had applied the brakes. If you have had this problem what did you do to fix this besides taking it to the shop? I've heard that this may be an expensive problem. FYI, for all the good answers, this is the first problem I have had with my Big Bear.

I don't know anything about the yamaha, but it sounds as though you might need to bleed the pressure off....or maybe the parking brake was on and they seized in that position....down south, we don't use brakes once they go out.....never really wanted to stop anyway....

I have 99 model big bear and had a similar problem. It seems when riding across flooded fields, water and mud can get inside the rear brake drum housing and cause them to freeze and/or stick. Pull your rear wheel off and the drum housing cover and check that out. Good Luck......
No matter how bad the hunting gets, it's always good to be outside and one with nature.

I got one and I just loosen the wing nuts on the brake cables just inside the back wheels.

MMallard: I have had success with what you said but I may need to try it again when I'm not rushed like I was last night. I'm not at home right now and I don't need my 4-wheeler because I'm in a high dollar duck camp. I'll just borrow a golden 4-wheeler tomorrow :D . Currently, I'm trying to OB my dog for a hunt tomorrow with some docs and lawyers  .

quackfreek: Been there done that. I even pullled something out and cleaned it real good and it seemed to help, but this has been ocurring for the past few weeks.

Millenum Mallard: As to my knowledge there is no pressure to bleed off. I think the parking brake did cause this and I'm thinking of just taking the brakes off all together.

FYI, msbigdawg1234, the pit bull tracked a deer that Meeka and I lost a blood trail on and made us look like a you know what. I'm beginning to think this dog could make a good DEA dog. We have been told that before on the MIGHTY Miss'issp.

Keep the responses coming, I need to save all my money for the 'Duck Camp'
