All due respect, but these arguments about us needing welfare remind me of people who commit crimes, (deal drugs, steal, etc) and try to justify it by saying they had to, because if they didn't their family would starve. No, what you should do is the right thing and work to provide for your family. Can't find a job paying above minimum wage? Fine, take 2 jobs. Still not enough money? Fine, take 3 jobs. Man, it just makes no sense to me. It is clear black and white to me, no gray. If we don't want to make the hard, right choice to stop crazy overspending and overfunding entitlement welfare programs even though we know it's right but it would hurt our own back pockets, then we are the problem. Being a leader is about making tough choices even when you know many will hate it, but you know it's right.
Well stated. How is us worrying about losing our share of pork different than the ninjas voting based on handouts and obamaphones?
This is exactly what I was trying to say

B) Retires
C) Dies before I do

So what your saying is... If we want a Senator to get us some national pats on the backs for pooping in something other than an outhouse he's our man?

Re: Mississippi is ready for some change
Here is the bottom line. The MS GOP establishment encouraged Thad to run for re-election, despite Thad being too old and in too poor of health to serve another complete term, under the assumption that Thad would once again face token opposition from either side and coast back into office. The plan was for Gov Bryant to appoint Thad's successor at some point in order to finish Thad's term and to give that chosen appointee a leg up for the next election. This plan would preserve the seat for Republicans, keep Thad propped up by his army of personal aides and handlers for as long as possible, and then allow the establishment to choose the heir apparent. This plan obviously backfired.
Thad should have announced his retirement well before the election so that all of our very best candidates would enter the race, and give the VOTERS the chance to decide Thad's successor. The way this has shaken down, McDaniel is our only alternative to this cronyism.
A vote for Thad is really a vote for some yet to be named Republican, who will be appointed rather than elected, and will not be the Republican head of the Appropriations Committee ( just like McDaniels would not be).
Also, MS will still get federal monies, even if McDaniel wins. It won't go from 45% of the MS state budget to zero. It is absurd to even suggest such.
Keep in mind that when Thad is no longer on the Senate Appropriations Comm, that Roger Wicker could be elevated to that spot.
Unfortunately, these are our choices. Follow the plan of cronyism put in place by the GOP establishment by voting for Thad, or taking a chance with the inexperienced McDaniel. Both campaigns have now been caught up in less than ethical conduct. Hold your nose and pick your man. But whoever wins, all need to support in November. Hey, either candidate, with warts and all baggage , has gotta be better than putting a Democrat in this Senate seat.

Like the man in the grocery store said to McDaniel, we all know we are in dept but what is your plan to fix it? Give us some specifics? McDaniel certainly cannot point to his record in Jackson to show how he will do any of these things. Living in the pine belt, I can testify that McDaniel loves the camera and he loves to recite his talking points but is he a leader and can he work with others to get things done?
Same goes for Cochran. What is his plan for the next term? Who knows if he is even mentally competent enough to serve?
Like someone else said, we just have to pick the lesser of two evils.

Isn't this a duck board? Any conservation minded folks on here?
· Senator Cochran is one of four Congressional Members of the eight member Migratory Bird Conservation Commission which allocates $850 million annually to waterfowl conservation. The funds are generated from the sale of Federal Duck Stamps, National Wildlife Refuge access fees, etc.
· Senator Cochran is a Ranking Member of the Senate Agricultural Committee and greatly influenced the conservation provisions of the recently passed Farm Bill. Programs such as the Wetlands Reserve Program, Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, and the other conservation provisions were driven by Senator Cochran.
· Senator Cochran worked to develop the RESTORE Act which directed that 80 percent of Clean Water Act penalties from the 2010 Gulf oil spill be used to restore and protect natural resources, ecosystems, fisheries, marine and wildlife habitats, beaches and coastal wetlands and to restore the economy of the Gulf Coast region.
· Senator Cochran is a staunch supporter of Second Amendment Rights.
· As a testament to his conservation advocacy and strong support, Senator Cochran has received numerous awards from conservation organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Inc., North American Waterfowl Federation, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, and most recently from the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
· Senator Cochran is a duck hunter and is committed to ensuring that waterfowl remain for those who follow us.

We know what Senator Cochran is....but what about his appointed successor? That is the problem for many of us as I see it. Do you believe he plans to serve the next six years in Washington?
Re: Mississippi is ready for some change
Unfortunately, Senator Cochran is the reason why the snapper/grouper/triggerfish/amberjack seasons have effectively been shut down for recreational fisherman while opened up full bore for commercial fisherman. He takes orders from the highest bidders.
Re: Mississippi is ready for some change
Instead of "Blame Bush" this board has turned into "Blame Cochran."

You McDaniel folks make sure and tell "your" farmers in the Delta how big a McDaniel's supporter you are and how they need to vote for him. Maybe your lease prices will go down!
