Brain limits of the FEDS

Postby Jordan River » Tue Jan 11, 2005 4:01 am

I was talking to a TWRA officer I went to school with years ago, an we was a tawkin bout duk huntin' an a, well, he got to sayin' bout dem dere Federalie boyz is sumpin' o' a deeks they is....
I was asking him the same question because my nine year old son, my friend and myself were going to be spending five days on a pontoon blind. The subject was especially important to me and my friend because we are both cops, and the fine folks running Memfrica might make our lives hell if we were to get in trouble.
Anyway, all that said to say this...I hate a cop who can't use common sense. Reminds me of LAWYERS!!!

there is a "freezer locker law" that applies to possession limits, normally a secondary charge aimed at poachers and people selling wild game.
all consevation officers must have a search warrant to enter a home or other outdoor buildings to do a search for violations unless, they are given permission or in pursuit or chase of a suspected violater... you can find more info at http://www.mdwfp.com under the frequently asked questions..

judge, tell us more about the freezer law. I have not been in trouble about this (not looking for free legal advice) I just don't want to get into trouble for something that is not clear to me. If I legally hunt and harvest ducks and return home with them process them and store some for consumption later during the year - I don't see the problem with doing so. It's not like I have a hundred birds in the freezer, but twelve ducks will not feed my family but twice at most.

You guys are worse than a bunch of 70 year old ninnies at the beauty shop on Friday.

You can have 12 birds. You can gift 12 birds to other members of your family. For instance, I could gift 12 to my wife and my daughter, but they need to be marked stating when I killed them and what species they are.

You can't have a possession limit in the field or on the opening day.

You must leave one fully-feathered wing or head attached to each bird while transporting them from the field to your abode.

If your camp wants to breast out the birds and put them in Ziplocs in the freezer, then you fall under "migratory bird preservation facility" and must keep records of who killed what and the date.

If your camp wants to just pluck the birds and leave a head or wing attached, all you need to do is mark the birds with name and date....no detailed recordkeeping necessary.

Don't leave your birds with another hunter in the field unless you tag them with name and date. Don't leave a table full of ducks at your camp with the other members. When they bring in their ducks it looks bad for them if they get checked. Tag them before you leave.

We won't come to your camp unless you are some thug like Torch or GH22 so don't worry about it

And NO, mounted birds don't count you silly people.

Well, I breast out 99% of my birds and transport them from the camp to the house all the time without a wing or head attached.......so come get me big boy!!!

The possession limit is stupid and should be done away with. I would be willing to bet that 85% of the regulars on this board have more than the allotted amount of birds in their camp or house freezer.

I mean.......geez.......it's a freakin' stupid law. Four yrs ago when the birds were here and I'd be able to limit 7 days a week. And since I was the only one at the camp those birds are all on me......including the other 75 from the early season that everyone else took.

The law was established to put an end to the days of market hunting. Well, those days are over, and the rule needs to be changed......that's all I'm saying. How in the heck do they expect someone to somehow eat 30 birds in 7 days after getting 6 limits? :? Heck, I got to searching the freezer at the camp the other night and found some birds from the '02 season, vaccumed packed and as fresh as the day they were killed. You can't give the birds away either cuz either the people don't like eating them, or they are maxed out too by the possession limit.

Well if you got 3 year old birds in your freezer you don't need to kill any more.

You won't ever have to worry about possession, Jeff, cause something always happens when you hunt like...."the sun was in my eyes" or "the wind was swirling around like a tornado in the hole and the ducks wouldn't work" or "my Ruskie made hand cannon firing 6.5" shells jammed up" or something like that.

First off....the birds from '02 weren't mine.....and if they were I don't see any problem with it. :?

Everyone faces adversity in just about every hunt.....so what does that have to do with this discussion? :?

And the last time I checked that Ruskie killed more birds than your 870 did that day.
