What do ya 'll know about this ??
As of Wednesday ice covered 33.9% of the great
Lakes, the largest ice cover so late in the season
Since accurate measurements from satellites began in the
Late 70's..
This late season ice has lead to duck die-offs. Ice cover has denied
The ducks access to food and water; and thus the birds have
Starved to death.
Anyone have any info on how severe this has been
Could this affect season bag limits and dates. Especially considering all the
Loss of crp land??
Thx
Big

I have a hard time believing ducks would sit around and starve to death. They are pretty good and travelling to find food and water

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I'm gonna pull a Sam Kinneson here --- " Hey ducks, move to where the darn food is".
Aren't ducks migratory? Wouldn't they simply fly south to warmer environs in search of food and cover, as opposed to starving and freezing to death?
I guess all the Yankee DU feeding programs up nauth have created a bunch of ducks dumber than Dumocrats. Perhaps Mother Nature, in Darwinian fashion, is thining the flocks.
I curse that darn global warming.

Re: Duck die-offs Great Lakes
The article I read about it made inference to the fact that by the time they realized the lakes were freezing over to a point that they couldn't access food, they were too weak to fly south. I saw lots of pictures that waterfowl photographer Dave Stimac posted on FB and various forums of mergansers with their bills frozen shut. They couldn't feed and the ice was too heavy to fly with. It was a "perfect storm" sort of event up there.
