McDaniel v Cochran - Thoughts
It seems that Cochran is spending a lot of money in attempting to defame Chris McDaniel. I have yet to hear a Cochran campaign ad that actually touts his accomplishments in his decades in office. McDaniel may well deserve the criticism, but it seems odd to me that Cochran has gotten so dirty, so fast.
Anyway, apparently Cochran has not accepted any debate invitations by McDaniel to date. McDaniel has recently accepted a debate invitation for statewide broadcasting.

What are your thoughts on this entire issue?
This is likely the most important election in Mississippi in quite some time IMO.

Cochran is upset someone is challenging his seat.
Re: McDaniel v Cochran - Thoughts
It's important to distinguish ads put on from PACs vs. from Cochran himself. He has no input (and can't, legally) into what the PAC does with advertisements.

Re: McDaniel v Cochran - Thoughts
There is a compelling argument that if McDaniel wins the primary, the democrats have a shot at the seat. Just something to consider. Peel away the rhetoric and look at the big picture. Cochran has been very good for our state.
Re: McDaniel v Cochran - Thoughts
I haven't decided who I am going to vote for, but I am getting very frustrated with politicians in general. I don't know much about McDaniel's and I will have to investigate him more thoroughly before I give him my vote, but I am sick of play nice republican senators. I have always appreciated Cochran for his service and what he has done for MS, but we are reaching an age where Republican candidates are going to half to fight back for their constituent principles. Cochran is a fine man, but we need to get some folks in Washington that are more willing to fight than to smile, shake hands, and play nice with their Democratic buddies in order to get a few pork projects. At his age, I wonder if Cochran is up to that approach.

Cochran/Barbour PAC ads are really hillarious to me. "Trial Lawyer Chris McDaniel"
Says the Lifetime Politician.
Just Crazy stupid.
In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, If you vote for Thad Cochran, then you care ZERO about the future of our country and state for your/our kids.
Period. This is the best opportunity that we have to get a Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Lee type person that will take a stand against the establishment.
Whether they are doing it for personal gain, or for the greater good, either way, it ends up for the greater good in my opinion. The GOP is dead as far
as I'm concerned.

double edged sword: mcdaniel for america or cochran for mississippi
new blood is good for a much needed shake-up in the party, but cochran's seniority is a natural boon for misssissippi

In what way? In what way is/has he done anything that a Junior Senator can not do? I keep hearing people taut his seniority, but
that is the main problem with Cochran.....he's been corupted for so long that he doesn't even know he's from Ms. Time for the old man to GO.

The seniority is a huge deal. You can talk all you want in DC but time and position is what gets things done. If the politician is doing good with that seniority it's a good deal. Once they sour and start straying or just not giving a darn anymore is when the problems arise. Cochran has done great things for this state and many industries in this state.fireplug wrote:donia wrote:double edged sword: mcdaniel for america or cochran for mississippi

I'm ready for some fresh blood myself. Still sucks that we lose a lot of clout no matter how cool our new senator is. It's just a function of the system when it's full of yahoos voted in even bigger yahoos.

Seniority, it's why I vote for Benny Thompson.
That sounds smart, doesn't it.

I'm not a farmer......but can tell you a lot of the things that have saved farm legislation in the last few years have been helped by Thad Cochran. His Seniority with Agriculture and other committees does help A LOT. Young guys from either party do actually respect Seniority on committees..........they are forced to. It's just how things are done there. I'm all for another good candidate to take his place...........don't know if Chris McDaniel can be that guy though.fireplug wrote:donia wrote:double edged sword: mcdaniel for america or cochran for mississippi

Next question...assuming Cochran wins (which is likely), does he have another 6 years left in him? If not, who replaces him? And since he would be replaced by the choice of the Governor, that person does not get imparted Cochran's seniority or positions, correct?
I have heard that Tate Reeves wants to be appointed to Cochran's seat, should he decide to step down early. I have also heard other rumors, like Phillip Gunn.

I am voting for McDaniel. Everybody thought is was going to be doomsday when Trent Lott got the boot and it wasn't. Time for some new blood.
