Windows and doors

Postby teul2 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:59 pm

I figure theres a few of you that could point me in the right direction. We are about to renovate the living room in our house. This will include replacing 2 windows and a door.

I know I can look at them at lowes and home depot, but where can I go for someone to shoot me straight and sell me what I need, not what fills their quota? Not a stretch to go from Jackson to Memphis for the right place.

Joel, when I built we used 84 lumber for all of our windows and went with Pella double hung Vinyl windows . A co worker of mine used to sell windows and may can answer all of your questions and help on pricing, I will ask him tomorrow.

We put Quakers in when someone wants a good quality window which Pella would be comparable. 3/4" insulated glass with the low-E an Argon. I also put them in my home. That's pretty much the basics of it. I usually recommend a single hung for down stairs because how often are you going to take them out to clean them down stairs. There isn't enough difference in the price to really matter either way.

Joel, look up Creative Windows and Doors out of Ridgeland. All they deal in is windows and doors and sell several different brands. Lumber companies and the like actually order through places like them most of the time. Call them direct and take out the middle man. I was amazed at what all went into windows when dealing with them while building my house. They'll tell you real quick that Pella is just a name and not a good brand at all. After looking over about 10 different brands, i decided to go with Marvin. If you are replacing windows instead of building from scratch....there's certain replacement kits offered by certain manufacturers. They were real straight shooters and didn't try to sell me on anything. I ended up getting top of the line Marvin from them for about the same money as Pella or Jeldwen at my local supply store. I can get you their number if you can't find it.

I sold Pella Windows and Doors for seven years out of Memphis. DIY retailers do carry the Pella line, but these are the cheaper version of what made Pella good.
Have a buddy that is still with them - works out of Memphis but covers North MS down to Columbus, Starkville, Oxford, etc.

Rocky, Does Russ work at Creative? I know that name somehow. He wasn't my salesman though.
